Watch the Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me deleted scenes trailer.
Key moments in the past few months were obviously David Lynch’s unofficial announcement of the Twin Peaks Blu-ray (with unseen content!) and Ray Wise confirming the inclusion of the deleted scenes from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. Now if you haven’t done so, go check out the trailer for the long-awaited deleted scenes along with more information on the specific contents of the Blu-ray. Join the Twin Peaks Blu-ray release event page on Facebook to receive important updates and, as always, keep an eye on Welcome to Twin Peaks on Twitter and Facebook.
Everything below was written before the official announcement of Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery on May 15, 2014:
Like Laura Palmer’s double life, it’s no secret to us that Twin Peaks is coming to Blu-ray. Since 2011, co-creator Mark Frost has repeatedly confirmed that a Blu-ray release was in progress, hinting several times at the possible inclusion of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and its deleted scenes. Recently, Bill Hunt from The Digital Bits said that multiple sources have indeed confirmed that the imminent Twin Peaks Blu-ray will not just include the complete series but the prequel movie as well.
UPDATE #1: This article has been refreshed with recent information provided to Welcome to Twin Peaks by John Berge of Videomagasinet. More details in the “UPDATES” below and this is still unconfirmed by the main distributor, but in short: potential March 26, 2014 release of Twin Peaks – The Entire Mystery with deleted scenes from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me on 9 Blu-ray discs!
UPDATE #2: David Lynch himself has now confirmed the upcoming Twin Peaks Blu-ray release and we have it on video!
When: Twin Peaks Blu-ray Release Date
If it’s not a question about if, then when will the BD be released? 03/27/2014 would be a brilliant release date for the Twin Peaks Blu-ray since, at least according to my calculations, that’s exactly 25 years after Laura Palmer tells Dale Cooper she’ll see him again in 25 years. And what a great opportunity for a newly filmed epilogue starring Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee in The Black Lodge, right? Right?!
UPDATE: According to the pre-order page on Amazon France, the Blu-ray will be released June 11, 2014! The pre-order page for Twin Peaks – L’intégrale (two seasons and the movie on Region B/2 with original and French audio) has been removed again.
Still rumored: Paramount Australia to release Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery (Limited Edition) on April 30th 2014. Only 1700 copies and just the series, not the movie.
What: Twin Peaks Blu-ray Content
Let’s be a bit more realistic. What can we expect from this upcoming Twin Peaks Blu-ray release?
Both seasons of Twin Peaks and the movie in crystal clear 1080p of course. Right now, the best HD quality version of Twin Peaks is available for purchase via iTunes only: season 1, season 2.
Now that Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is rumored to be included, the biggest “question in a world of Blu-ray” is obviously: will this release include the 45 minutes of deleted scenes? Frost stated earlier this year that lawyers were on it. But it’s not only a legal matter. As we’ve seen with the Blue Velvet Blu-ray, David Lynch will never release deleted scenes unless they look and sound absolutely beautiful. In my imagination, Lynch is happily working on that. Right. Now.
UPDATE: In Fox-Paramount’s promotional image, the preliminary cover art for Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery suggests the inclusion of “the missing pieces” and shows a red sticker with “deleted scenes from Fire Walk with Me.” I believe the word you’re looking for is: BINGO!
Even though most fans probably own it already, bonus material (in high definition) from previous releases would really make this a complete collection.
New extras could include the 14-minute documentary, Vérité: ‘Fire Walk with Me, shot in 2012 by Joseph Garcia Quinn at the opening night of the Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me 20th Anniversay Group Art Exhibiton. Michael J. Anderson, Dean Hurley, Sheryl Lee and Jennifer Lynch are credited to appear in the doc.
And this is a no-brainer, but the Blu-ray should include the full length videos of all Q&A sessions with cast and crew from the USC’s Twin Peaks Retrospective in the first half of 2013. UPDATE: This has been confirmed.
The Return to Twin Peaks documentary about the Twin Peaks Fest included in the Gold Box edition was a great watch, but Jason Deehr made an epic compilation of some of the fest’s best moments especially for the 20th edition of the festival. I think it deserves a place on a Twin Peaks BD release as well.
A selection of wonderful Twin Peaks fan videos, like the Falling pole dance choreography, the amazing stop-motion Twin Peaks painting, Twin Peaks Illustrated and much, much more.
What else do you think should be included with the Twin Peaks Blu-Ray release? And what should the packaging look like? Let your imagination go wild and put your ideas in the comments. Here’s Emre Unayli‘s packaging design for Twin Peaks: The Definitive Blu Box Edition. This is not the official box art. Hat tips to Joey, Shawn, Bill and John!
I’d say “Take my Money” but you know you already have it.
yes! julias stop motion painting on the bd! 🙂 also a great idea with dale and laura 25 yrs later.
Awesome news! Just a question about the packaging:
The images show a normal-sized plastic BD case (which is great because I’ve seen up to six discs fitting snugly inside one normal-sized plastic BD case) but also shows a cardboard sleeve with what looks like a cardboard fold-out case.
Is there any official word on what the packaging will be? Either way, I’ll buy it but cardboard box sets really suck. They take up an unnecessary amount of room and they’re perishable whereas the plastic cases last forever (and if they get damaged, you can easily get another one).
Also should include the deleted scenes from the series. And the Coffee commercials. And the Cannes cut of Fire walk with me. Was a different cut than the mainstream release. With more train car and other things.
The commentaries from the Artisan release need to be there and hopefully a few more added for season 2.
YES ! you took the words right out of my mouth !
i would love to listen to David Lynch and the Cast do commentary for the series and movie. That would be awesome!
Would love to see all the promos used by ABC including the “previously on Twin Peaks” bits.
Log Lady Intros. #amiright? Could those possibly be remastered to a better quality than in the Gold Box? (I think the answer is no.) And holy cow, both season’s soundtracks, and I would pee all over myself if we could get a physical copy of the Twin Peaks Anthology. OH, and options to turn on / off the “Previously on Twin Peaks…” and any commercials that may exist out there. Yeah. I want all those things. But if I could get FWWM and the series in a really, really clean 1080 with deleted scenes, it would make my year.
Not gonna happen dudes. Geez.
Thanks for the shout Pieter!!
i would like to have deleted scenes… and… i dreamed new web episode from Linch each one about one character after second season to give twin peaks the conclusion it deserve…
Deleted scenes of Wild at Heart are on the “Mystery DVD” by absurda, introduced by Lynch himself, and are of a relatively poor audio/visual standard.
How about some Julee Cruise music video(s)?
Will it be pan’n’scan 16:9? Or will it be 4:3?
Better be in the originally shot Aspect Ratio. Unless they did a hybrid as some early shows did before the HDTV days. Stretching it to 16X9 is by no means acceptable/ Neither is Pan and Scan in any form.
Stretching it to 16×9? Ha ha, yeah, that’s gonna happen.
After the two-hour pilot aired on ABC, I believe it was Entertainment Weekly that published a two-page chart/diagram of “who’s who” with lines to show relationships. We didn’t know these characters yet and it was very confusing to try and keep track of all that. FInding and including that chart would be very cool!
Amazing – Silent Hill was Truly founded on Twin Peaks.
I would rather have a separate Blue-Ray disc like recent documentaries for FRIDAY THE 13TH, HALLOWEEN and ELM STREET franchises, 4 hour documentary interviewing all those involved in both the series and movie and track the series and movie in chronological order. Also bonus extras.
For FIRE WALK WITH ME, include outtakes, photo archives, I have video footage of the first TP Festival when New Line was promoting the film. I also have a good share of stills I shot while they were shooting, including some from scenes that were cut. I submitted some to the French company that was supposed to release them on DVD special edition (not sure if that ever actually came out as they were trying to get the cut scenes to include, but that didnt happen). Anyone have that DVD? Was there any stills of cut scenes on it? They owe me a disc 🙁
Anyway, interviews, commentary, fan section, cultural impact around the world, etc etc.
They are trying to release season 3 or a new film i heard
No, that would turn out awfully. The original is perfect the way it is.
We have to see these FWWM deleted scenes… All those legal matters, Lynch’s stubbornness and so on and so on are getting ridiculous already… Every 2 years there are new releases, new editions full with a kind of bullshit documentaries… whats the point? Make one release with s1, s2, FWWM and all deleted scenes and stop playing around…
I would love to see the live in-studio performance by Julee Cruise of her “Floating Through the Night” songs that appeared on VH1 at the time; Elvis Mitchell hosted and it was beautiful.
I’d like to see the SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE episode hosted by Kyle McLachlan which included a TWIN PEAKS spoof where he played Agent Cooper.
Yeah right — I know…
Awesome news. I just hope they’ll fix the sound issue in the nightclub scene of Fire Walk With Me. They made the dialogue too loud in the DVD mix. They’re supposed to be drowned out by the music.
Yes, hopefully David Lynch will take the time to oversee a transfer instead of some moron kid doing what HE thinks is best.
Peeling back the layers of mystery and darkness. This photo is an accurate representation of the town/series of Twin Peaks. Hopefully a new generation of viewers will see this and take the series to the next level. And that next level should be Season 3 on Netflix. This show needs a conclusion. We’ve been waiting 20 years for an ending. Perhaps this Blu-Ray will be the beginning of that movement. Perhaps “It is happening again.”
That cover art is kind of hideous. I hope it’s not official.
Yeah, that cover art is an abomination. Let’s hope they use some original artwork or just go with the bend in the road and Twin Peaks sign from the intro. No need to “update” it for a 2014 audience. Keep it original like the show itself.
No cardboard in the packaging either I say. Standard BD case with inserts to hold all the discs. If one case won’t do it, make it two cases.
Weird. I thought it was awesome in a very disturbing way, and interesting enough to bring a whole new bunch of people into the Twin Peaks fold…
No offense but I want the BluRay to be about the best presentation of the show. Crappy mangled photoshop because the studio won’t pay for or treat the original ArtWork properly is an insult to the fans tat have kept this show alive enough to even warrant a BD release 30 years later.
Awesome!
I have to say I love the packaging designed by Emre Unayli shown above. I wish this were the official design. It’s evocative, atmospheric, subtle and I love those silvery hues on the front cover and the discs.
By contrast, the design at the top of the page is cartoonish and juvenile. (In fact it reminds me of something I painted for an art class when I was 15). I do hope it’s just a promo image and not the final packaging. TP deserves better.
Kieran : I could not agree with you more. The image at top is really awful and I really hope it’s not the final cover.
The Emre Unayli design is incredible. I really wish that was the final art !!
I do wish to point out that there will be sections of season 2 that will likely be Standard Def (off the top of my head, the scene with Wyndom Earle and Audrey in the library, for example) because they were not even remastered from film in the previous boxset. The composites (e.g. the owl flying at the camera at the end of one episode) was also still from a video master, but perhaps CBS will do as they did with Star Trek: The Next Generation and recomposite all the film elements for that.
For me the “Previously on Twin Peaks” need to be included as well.
Just had my order cancelled by Amazon as they say it has been withdrawn!
I hope the box is the one at the top- creepy and quirky.
Please include the Previously on Twin Peaks, FFWM deleted scenes (!!!) and the Cannes cut.
And PLEASE GOD season 3 on HBO!
The art design done by Emre Unayli is actually quite decent, but the one at the top of the page is hideous.
Let’s just hope the official art design will be at least a little bit better than the Gold Box, that was terrible and tacky.
And yes, I hope they’ll include the “Previously on Twin Peaks” and “Next week on Twin Peaks”. Let’s have the whole thing goddamnit!! lol
The Phil Donahue show had an episode with the cast from Twin Peaks after the hysteria of the first season hit. I have never seen this available on any previous release. Is this a possibility on the blu ray collection?
I started watching Twin Peaks for the first time a few weeks ago and have just finished watching Fire Walk With Me. What a fantastic show this was and such a shame it was axed before its time, much like Laura Palmer herself.
I cannot wait to get my hands on this Blu Ray set and what’s more, I’ll make sure the DVDs go to a good home.
Is there a US release??
i think its not coming and were all being taken for a ride
From the horse’s mouth: https://welcometotwinpeaks.com/news/david-lynch-twin-peaks-blu-ray-rumors/
Shouldn’t it be available to order by now? 13 days to go and it’s unavailable on amazon…
Indeed, Bruce. The previously estimated release date will not be met. It has been pushed back with reliable sources saying June 2014.
Hopefully because they don’t want to rush out an imperfect product.. right..?
They have to make sure they have remastered alllllll of the deleted scenes from FWWM.
Thank you. Good to know it’s still happening.
dvd regions and bluray regions are NOT the same thing. a region 2 dvd from france would like be a region B bluray. the difference is important as the countries included in the regions for dvd vs bluray are very, very different.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve corrected the region of the French release to B/2.
I pre-ordered this from online retailer “Zavvi” and it was due to be released yesterday according to their website. My order status, as of yesterday, still read: “Awaiting Stock Pick”, so I queried this and they informed me that the actual release date is December 1st. I’m quite glad I didn’t go ahead and purchase a blu-ray player before finding this out as TP is the only reason I was going to get one anyway.
But much like the show; this is a mystery.
There’s no official date from Paramount yet, so Zavvi probably just changed it in their system to avoid getting hopes up again.
the pre order page from amazon french in disappeared!!!!
Ray Wise is talking about getting on Late Night . Hopefully he would be able to talk about Twin Peaks and talk about this Blu ray.
i think they’re just playing with us. They’ve been hyping this Blu Ray release for years now. Then this year they started to suggest that even the FWWM deleted scenes will be added as part of the package.. we had Lynch shooting something in the beginning of the year then Ray Wise spilled all the beans and everybody’s saying it’s happening but yet again we have no official date so it’s not happening and i’m sure if the title was going to be released this summer then it would be definitely on the pre-order section. They’re only trying to keep the level of interest intact so then when it will be actually released in 5 or even 10 years time hopefully people will buy it.
I have been hearing the TP Blu Ray release for at least 5 years now.. and i have always wondered why the Blu Ray of FWWM is so crap (regarding of the region code)!! They’re only milking us fans at this point.
Where can i place a pre-order for this? And is this still just the rumored Australian release of 1700 copies, or are they talking about a general release?
Twin Peaks – The Definitive Blu Box Edition with polish subtitles…as quickly as possible. We got problem here. Polish film distributor – IMPERIAL CINEPIX is always late, sometimes they do nothing or we’re waiting so long…for example: Twin Peaks Season 2(Polish version)- 4 years later, after Twin Peaks The Definitive Gold Box Edition DVD..
Belive me or not IMPERIAL CINEPIX in Poland is realy sucks.
Anybody knows who owns the distribution rights of Twin Peaks blu ray edition in Italy?
it would’ve been nice to get a digital copy of the twin peaks (the entire mystery) blu ray package given its extremely steep $120 cost.
Any idea if there will be a reissue/recall/exchange considering all the audio sync issues this box set has? I haven’t been able to find any updated info.
Unfortunately, we’re still in the dark.
