How do you feel about the Annie Blackburn story? Is this close to anything you had in mind for the character?
Heartbreaking. But then again most of the characters faced very sad outcomes.

"I'm fine." Yowza.
I feel strangely guilty about this, but because I don't have much free time these days, I skimmed the book at warp speed for just the most burning questions we've all talked about (so I won't be reading much of this board until I've had time for a proper read).
But this is easily the most devastatingly great bit out of what I've read so far. It also fits, in that Annie lived and physically came back - yet it explains how she could be "in the Lodge" with "the good Dale." Very likely, Annie is in a catatonic state because her mind/soul/essence got trapped in the Lodge although her body escaped.
(Edit: Just occurred to me that this sounds a lot like the man we knew for a while as "Dougie Jones." Was Coop really in there the whole time, just unable to express himself? Or did he need the electrocution to reunite his body with his soul... likewise left behind in the Lodge?)
I'm not predicting this, but it even leaves the door open that Annie could be saved... if there were ever more episodes and Heather Graham wanted to be in them and Lynch/Frost decided just this once to give the fans something nice. Could her soul be retrieved from the Lodge? Well, probably not. But they didn't kill the character. Seems like they didn't want to totally rule out including Annie in some future Twin Peaks project.
I like your thought, but to me it seems like the Double did this to her.
At first, she seemed perfectly fine. It's only until after a night in the hospital, she went into that catatonic state. Who else showed up at the hospital? Exactly.

Yeah, that does seem to be a hole in my interpretation. My first thought was: Well, they had to do it that way to explain why Annie was rescued and seemingly okay at the end of Season 2. But then there's still the problem of explaining who did what to her, and the Double makes a pretty damn fine suspect.
I still think part of my interpretation explains too much to be ignored - because some version of Annie was "in the Lodge with the Good Dale." I guess you could say she made her psychic contact with Laura (past-Laura?) during the brief period when Annie was definitely in the Lodge, before she was physically rescued. But she also says Good Dale was "trapped" there, which would seem like jumping the gun at that point. I don't know... maybe time has now been fractured too badly too make any of this fit together (which would be mighty-convenient for Lynch/Frost!), but it's still on my mind.
How's Annie? "I'm fine." -Annie
Initial thought, I'm a tad put off on the mentally ill thing going on with a few of the Twin Peaks ladies. I understand that Annie's previous suicidal tendencies were alluded to in season two, but such a tragic life for her from day one until now. Still need to ruminate a bit.
This was easily the most affecting part of the book for me. I had chills and a broken heart at the same time. And I'm not even a fan of Annie.
I actually didn't think this was the double's doing (although that makes sense.) I assumed it had something to do with losing the ring or crossing over time to send that message to Laura. I suppose she wouldn't have had a normal day then before going catatonic?
I had been thinking about how so many Lynch stories deal with the "reality" of internal thoughts and spaces. If you want a silver lining to the Annie story I would pay attention to the fact that according to the story she seems serene and vibrant in every other regard. She is simply somewhere else, on the inside. And apparently she is fine.
P.S. I was giving myself a high five for guessing that she was either A) in a catatonic state under care or B) had committed suicide; so I kinda got a twofer there.
I agree with @caoimhin ; as I read it I just figured that Annie's "I'm fine." was a response to DoppleCoop's "How's Annie?"
What about the alternate ending to Fire Walk With Me? There was a nurse that stole her ring.
Hey peter, can you PLEASE approve my first comment. I'm itching to hear what others think about the alternate ending and it's relation to Annie.

Yeah, what happened to that nurse?
Is she somebody else?
I was never a big fan of Annie, but her fate made me quite sad.
My personal vision was that Annie recognized that the Cooper that came out with her was a doppleganger. However, she also learned that she was pregnant with the good Dale's child (remember, they made love on the afternoon of Miss Twin Peaks).
In my head, she escaped from the town as soon as she could and returned to the convent, where she had the child and gave it up for adoption. That child was very *special*, being born out of a union between two *special* people while also being subjected to the energies of the Lodges in utero. She was possibly the "Moonchild" discussed in the Secret History.
In any event, she was precocious as a child, skipping several grades and graduating from college early. The girl (who never knew she was adopted) was then recruited into the FBI to be groomed to join Task Force Blue Rose.
Her name? Tamara Preston.
