While Blue Velvet on Blu-Ray is still a pre-order (Amazon) in most parts of the world, the 25th anniversary edition of the David Lynch movie has already hit the shelves in Belgium and the Netherlands*. Thanks to stills uploaded by Blu-Ray.com forum member Jojos, we can have a sneak peek at some of the 11 deleted scenes which can be described as:
- Frank beats Willard in a bar.
- A neighbor sees Jeffrey’s dad unconscious in his yard.
- Jeffrey is recalled from college when his father suffers a brain hemorrhage. Summoned from a school dance (where he watches a date rape in progress – !) Jeffrey gets the bad news on a dorm phone.
- Jeffrey calls Louise.
- Jeffrey first sees Sandy while eating cake with her mother. He also meets Sandy’s boyfriend Mike at this time. Jeffrey and Sandy go to the Slow Club.
- Jeffrey’s mom criticizes him for coming back home late.
- Jeffrey calls Louise again.
- Jeffrey talks to aunt Barbara before going out.
- At the Williams house Jeffrey makes Mike jealous by hanging out with the couple.
- Jeffrey calls Dorothy but it’s Frank who answers the phone.
- Jeffrey goes to Dorothy’s apartment. She leads Jeffrey to the apartment roof. Dorothy almost throws herself from the roof in despair. They end up making love.
He also added the following information on the length and video display resolutions of the extras:
- Documentary : Mysteries of Love (480i)
- Newly discovered lost footage (51:53, 1080p)
- A few outtakes (01:33, 1080p)
- Siskel & Ebert “At the Movies” (1986) (480i)
- Vignettes (480i)
- Trailer (1080p)/TV spots (480i)
And now for the Blue Velvet deleted scenes stills…
There’s one more still out there, but it’s NSFW (yes, that girl on the right is lighting her Twin Peaks).
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see these 50 minutes of ‘lost footage” in all their glory! However, some known deleted footage is still ‘lost’.
- Jeffrey catches Dorothy flushing her husband’s other ear down her bathroom toilet. The message on the bathroom mirror is from the incredibly villainous Frank Booth.
- A conference scene where Detective Williams (George Dickerson) has Jeffrey put on the police record what he knows about the violent events of the story.
To conclude, some Blu-ray stills taken from familiar scenes:
