In case their whimsical Fire Wok with Me hint back in April wasn’t obvious, yes, Criterion is releasing Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me on Blu-ray and DVD in October.
The director-approved special edition includes a 90-minute presentation of deleted scenes known as The Missing Pieces. It was previously released as part of The Entire Mystery but never on DVD, which makes this release the perfect companion to the Definitive Gold Box Edition (Amazon) for those without a Blu-ray player.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me features
- Restored 4K digital transfer, supervised by director David Lynch
- 7.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray, supervised by Lynch
- Alternate original 2.0 surround soundtrack, presented in DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray
- The Missing Pieces, ninety minutes of deleted and alternate takes from the film, assembled by Lynch
- New interviews with Sheryl Lee (22 minutes) & Angelo Badalamenti (20 minutes)
- Trimmed version of Between Two Worlds (2014): David Lynch talks to actors Sheryl Lee, Ray Wise, and Grace Zabriskie.
- An interview with David Lynch from the 2005 edition of filmmaker and writer Chris Rodley’s book Lynch on Lynch (Amazon)
- Trailers!
Pre-order the Blu-ray or DVD on Amazon and receive it on release day, October 17, 2017.

They’ll never edit this feature with the Missing Pieces included in the film, will they?
It really isn’t Lynch’s way to alter the final cut of his films after their release. He had the chance to do so with DUNE and chose not to and when Universal released their hideous extended cut he had his name removed. Personally I am happy with this stance as I think both Fire Walk with Me and DUNE are great as they are. The various fan edits, which attempt to incorporate deleted scenes, strike me as very misguided (as well as presumptuous) especially as the people doing them lack Lynch’s skills as an editor and his almost supernatural sensitivity to sound, not to mention his intuitive and conscious understanding of his intentions and what his works may mean.
I like the Blue Rose version of FWWM, although the film gets pretty long (for a film where not much happens and when it happens, you already knew)
I hope there’s a fan edit of The Return, because even less happens and I don’t see the point in watching all 18 hours again.
This is awesome, and I don’t mean to downplay it or distract, but I just had to get this out…where is our U.S. Blu-ray release of LOST HIGHWAY!
If they release The Return on Blu-ray would it be a 9 disc collection? LMFAO
I welcome all David Lynch works on Criterion as he intends them to be… why on earth anyone besides David Lynch would want to edit and therefore butcher any of his work is beyond me…
I have all his films/shows on blu-ray which are available as region free imports including The Elephant Man, Lost Highway, Mulholland Dr., Inland Empire and Twin Peaks the Complete Mystery yet I gladly double dip for his work presented on Criterion.
I’m just wondering will they be releasing that in UK Because I’ve only seen it on American websites
I dig music.
I know there are at least two official versions of this film because in 92-93 I attended a matinee showing of FWWM that used at least 90% of the footage released in the missing pieces. I hadn’t watched the series but my mother was a big fan of the series and, I of most everything other feature length me. Lynch had released. It was a hypno-twist of foly art backmasking symphony and berserker editing that would run a viewer through deep cut plot head first into a brick wall canvas curated by a mind teetertottering on insane. Absolute synesthesia. I was tittilated. It was a master work of light and shadow play. Imagine 2 years later finally bringing home the dvd release so I could go toe to toe with my wits and memories. Those sounds and scenes I would reply in my mind over the years.. Proof! Finally I had proff the existence of nightmare on film. Imagine the puzzlement all about me.. this WAS NOT THE FILM I HAD SEEN. How could someone screw up so badly as to miss label a commercial DVD and the gas wasted distributing those dvds around the globe. Wild as this sounded it was the only thing I could summise. You must understand the internet was just a baby, 99.9% of the world population couldn’t even upload personal photos yet. There was no explanation anywhere in sight that is until 2014 when missing pieces materialized along with a story of this deleted scene business. Malarkey I say! This was from an alternate edit one that still lives in the corner of Laura palmers room.. right over next to the bed with BOB. Waiting there to scare me silly again. Waiting to grab my arm and reverse time. This is true story you must know it. It’s bewildering to me that I may have attended a screening of this film at the only theatre that had this alt cut of FWWM. It was an arthouse theatre in the 90s.. I worked there.. even got the original double sided poster that alegedlly cost a couple hundred to print. Ah! Our youthful follies!
