David Lynch will certainly start shooting new episodes of Twin Peaks in September, Showtime boss David Nevins confirmed with a sound of relief today at the network’s TCA Summer Press Tour 2015 event. He added that the show is largely cast with familiar faces as well as some big surprises, and that David Lynch and Mark Frost are approaching the project “as one long movie.”

You should be optimistic that the people that you want will be there.

Leaving the episode count (“I expect it to be more than 9, but it’s open-ended.”) and the release year (“I’m hoping 2016.”) unconfirmed, that’s about all Nevins could reveal today.

Why?

“Because it’s David Lynch.”

This is going to be amazing.

  2. Conrad says:

That’s not any sort of official image, is it? I hope but my breath is far from being held.

    • Griff says:

It’s official insofar as it appeared on Showtime’s twitter page…

  3. Arjan Hut says:

    I’m happy. I hope you’re happy too.

  4. Twin Peaks Fan says:

So, I am a little confused. Are there going to be 9 or 18 episodes after all?

    • max says:

More than 9, probably less than 18. Lynch will figure it out in the editing room.

As of today, a few weeks before shooting, Sherilyn Fenn claims on Twitter:

“None of the women I know have any deal in place for Twin Peaks. Including myself.”

Is this of concern for the new season?

I doubt Lynch would drop all of the original female cast. I’m sure he finds the prospect of returning to aged characters interesting.

However, you have to consider that the show is set ~25 years later and it mightn’t be tenable that absolutely everyone gets to come back. As much as fans might want it due to emotional attachments, Lynch & co. will surely be trying to make original art rather than fan art, and throwing the nostalgic kitchen sink in might work against that.

That being said, this is Lynch, so he could probably engineer some way for all of the characters to be present, even the ones played by deceased actors, and make it feel right.

Hi! I looked on this blog about a problem I have but couldn’t find an answer (meaybe I searched wrog). In various forums there’s this little thing about what the one-armed man said in the episode 2 first season. What exactly did he say?
“One chance out between two worlds, fire walk with me…? Or
“One chants out between two worlds, fire walk with me…?
In the spanish subtitles it reads “canticos” “chants”; but in the english subtitles it reads “chance”.
    Which one is it?

Since we have lost dear Catherine Coulson, what is David Lynch going to do with the Log Lady? Would he dare to recast the part? I hope not! I think he should make some homage to the character, who should be deceased, and create something new in her place.

    • Rob B. says:

Here’s my theory: there’s always been a “Log Lady” in Twin Peaks, a shaman figure who’s connected to the Lodges. Had Laura survived her encounters with BOB, she might have become her generation’s “Log Lady.” As it is, I think we may see one of the older characters take on her mantle (if not the Log itself). My money would be on either Bobby or Donna.
