A question while we hunt for the article that I hope is as semi-interesting as I remember it being.
Of all the artists/singers Lynch featured throughout this last season, why did he not let Ms. Bell sing? Yes, I am aware she was already busy being SA Preston and yes, I'm also aware that it may have created a cognitive conflict or disruption.......because that has EVER stopped Lynch from doing anything....ever.
I think he could have pulled it off. And even if it hadn't worked well, don't think give AF. The music is perfect and she is Lynch's pet project. Not a huge fan of hers, but I think her singing is much more appropriate to the show than her portrayal of T. Preston.
What do you all think? Why didn't he? Would it have "worked?" If so, which song? If not, why not?
I agree that her music would have fit well, but I think that casting her as Tammy sort of ruled that out. He seems to have thought of the musicians as characters to a large extent. The biggest indication of that would be the credits listing Eddie Vedder as playing Edward Louis Severson, but I think it holds generally. So, then, having Chrysta Bell perform would be as dissonant with the world being portrayed as it would be for David Lynch to perform one of his songs at the Roadhouse.
They could have cast someone else as Tammy and had her perform, but I think giving her an acting role is perhaps a greater sign of appreciation. And, fwiw, I liked her as Tammy.
What is this interesting article you mention?

The article is the one we are trying to find in the Puget Sound and the Supernatural thread.
I think it could have been a serious mind-fuck to have her perform as Chrysta Bell though. That would have sent us all into infinite hysteria. Especially if she'd done her version of Falling or Sycamore Trees......

Yeah, it would have been 🙂 I would read into it A LOT. But I guess I am saying that is why they didn't do it, I think.
Thanks for pointing me toward the RR section of the forum. I had been somewhat unaware of that.

Ok I have a couple of thoughts:
1. Having her perform as Chrysta Bell would have been seen by almost all of us fans as some sort of clue or reflection on the finale and it's meaning. In either case (good or bad) we could not have ignored that she was Tammy Preston when she was with Gordon Cole yet she was Chrysta Bell when she was at the roadhouse.
2. I think giving her the prestigious role of Tammy Preston as well as a a slot as a performer in the road house could have been seen by fans and especially his wife as just a little too much attention in her direction. Hell Hath no Fury and all that...
