New 4K Restoration Of David Lynch’s Eraserhead Heading To Blu-Ray And DVD

It’s been about a year and a half since Criterion first teased us about this, but David Lynch‘s Eraserhead will finally be added to The Criterion Collection on September 16, 2014.

It does look like this Eraserhead release was worth the wait, as the “director-approved” edition includes a new 4K digital restoration of David Lynch‘s debut feature and an uncompressed stereo soundtrack of the surreal 1977 film. But you’ll need to get your hands on the Blu-ray edition of this release to be able to enjoy that. Criterion is also including new high definition versions of six of his short films, all with video introductions by David Lynch:

• Six Figures Getting Sick (1966)
• The Alphabet (1968)
• The Grandmother (1970)
• The Amputee, Part 1 and Part 2 (1974)
• Premonitions Following an Evil Deed (1996)

Other extras  are “Eraserhead” Stories, a 2001 documentary by David Lynch on the making of the film, new high-definition restorations of new and archival interviews with cast and crew and the trailer.

Out since September 16, 2014 and you can order via Amazon US on Blu-ray (1 disc) and DVD (2 discs).

UPDATE: There’s clearly a video and audio glitch in the scene where Henry Spencer meets the Lady in the Radiatior and touches her (at about 1:05:54). Criterion has been notified and we’re currently awaiting their response here’s their official statement.
