Something is happening, isn’t it, Margaret?

Using a Mulholland Drive quote and a cinemagraph of a doppelgänger smoking a cigarette, David Lynch is teasing something.

UPDATE: The initial countdown was set to Monday, September, 26. They have added an extra day after this post was published.

UPDATE #2: Playing Lynch revealed!

Earlier this morning, Welcome to Twin Peaks discovered a countdown over at playinglynch.com, which is counting down to Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 8 AM EST. But there’s more…

Adding to the mystery are these microsites for the Double R Diner, Merrick’s Bandage Supply, Margaret Lanterman’s OilsThe Lost Highway Hotel, The Slow Club, David’s Radiator Repairs, Henry’s Print Shop… and this GIF of the Log Lady petting her log.

What do you think David Lynch is teasing?

A virtual reality video game in which you get to play David Lynch? An immersive theater experience where you walk through all of his movies? Is he going on a tour with his music? Or, and I know I’m reaching here, are they building an official David Lynch theme park?

What are your thoughts?

To be continued…

It’ll be just like in the movies. Pretending to be somebody else.

Majorly hoping for a Mulholland Drive TV series at last!

    • Rob B. says:

Well, Mullholland Drive began as a spin-off for Audrey. Maybe the surprise will how they will develop the connections in the new season? Are Camilla and Diane trapped in the Black Lodge alongside Cooper?

  2. Corbs says:

If you hover over the numbers they make a noise

  3. CaptPostMod says:

That picture looks more like Michael Shannon than David Lynch to me. But that could just be my imagination.

  4. Frank says:

    Or Tuesday, Sept 27th, at 8:00 Eastern…

  5. R Knights says:

New official Twin Peaks trailer with new footage?

  6. Emily says:

That “David Lynch doppelganger” is Dana Ashbrook.

  7. Arlo says:

It would be amazing if it was something like a SuperCinema(NYC) or SecretCinema(London) immersive movie experiences!!!

  8. Mathias says:

I’m hoping for a TP teaser or trailer. I’m a bit too old fashioned to having any desire to play some interactive TP game on social media.

  9. Justin says:

The numbers each trigger notes in what amounts to about 2/3 of a chromatic scale. You can actually play a very high-pitched version of the bass intro to “Audrey’s Dance” and “Dance of the Dream Man” using these notes.

Also worth noting – the room he’s in is a hallway. There are vents at the top of the walls on either side, and the wallpaper/mural seems to be trees and birds. There MIGHT be a door on the left side near the rear.

    • Avatar photo Twin Pie says:

Also easy to play is “Cool Cat Walk” from Wild at Heart.

    • AlphaQuad says:

Yeah, I caught that too. The cheaper 9 disc edition of the Twin Peaks Entire Mystery is coming out tomorrow and Lynch is promising a damned good cup of coffee with Kyle Maclachlan at the Festival of Disruption. I’m guessing that whatever it is, it’ll at least involve Twin Peaks. It’s about time to get the promotional train rolling.

  10. Rick says:

I’ve always assumed the Cowboy from MD was a lodge inhabitant. Particularly with his electric intro.

  11. Joe says:

Those do NOT look like Margaret’s hands to me.

  12. GaryC says:

Looks like a shopping cart in the source of the playinglynch.com web page…

  13. Corey says:

“David Lynch” here looks like John Malkovich.

  14. rob't says:

Despite references to many of his films, I didn’t notice “Dune.” Is there a microsite for that?

  15. dale_coop says:

I would love to lost myself in a VR dreamy or mysterious experience into the Lynch’s movies.
with music (always in the air)… I would spend hours in there.

  16. Aneeq Zaman says:

Looks like a movie on David Lynch, acted by someone else : D

  17. Greg says:

If you run the cursor back and forth over the numbers it plays the descending / ascending scale part from Audrey’s Dance.

  18. Jeffrey says:

In 2006, David Lynch founded the David Lynch Foundation to bring Transcendental Meditation into the lives of those who could use it most. Since then, the foundation has brought the scientifically proven psychological benefits of TM into prisons, low income schools, the homes of veterans with PTSD and many more. In April 2015, musicians such as The Flaming Lips, Karen O and Jim James performed a one-night-only tribute to the music from Lynch’s films, to raise money for the David Lynch Foundation’s initiatives.

Now, you can donate to download a live recording of The Music of David Lynch, as well as the full length high-quality director’s cut of the film, Psychogenic Fugue, which features John Malkovich playing Lynch, and finally, a collector’s’ edition of 8 John Malkovich portraits playing Lynch by photographer Sandro. Your proceeds will help the DLF transform even more lives.

Through his life’s work, David Lynch has beckoned us to look below the surface, to discover new worlds. For those of us who have followed him down the rabbit hole, Squarespace is hosting Playing Lynch. Here, world-class artists and musicians offer their own interpretations of Lynch’s work, all to benefit the David Lynch Foundation. It’s their opportunity to do to Lynch’s world what he has done to ours for so long: show it in a new light to reveal a whole new realm of possibilities. Consider it returning the favor. We hope you’ve enjoyed Playing Lynch. A collaborative meditation on the work of David Lynch.

    • Karma says:

Transcendental Meditation is a cash grab hoax. There are plenty of good (free) meditation options without the useless hocus pocus and business of personalized mantras.

Just say “om” in your mind over and over – and your mind will drift off “below the surface” just as well.
