A newly surfaced two-minute excerpt from the 10-hour, 32-minute audiobook, which you can find on Audible (get a free 30 day trial), covers the months before the Twin Peaks pilot aired on April 8, 1990. People Magazine got the scoop.

The pie, donuts and coffee are all real, and we get through a lot of days giddy on sugar and caffeine. David starts us on cappuccinos, but I eventually switch to plain black. By the end of our shooting days, I’m often reeling.

In the excerpt, MacLachlan goes on to describe his role as the audience’s way into the world of Twin Peaks. “The show doesn’t work unless the audience is willing to follow Cooper,” he says. “He’s affable, but there’s also a darkness in him; his optimism is a choice, not a result of naïveté.” MacLachlan goes further, admitting the role changed him: “Spending week after week in him, I find myself admiring Cooper, comfortable in his skin in a way I’m not always in my own.”
