The David Lynch & Cher Conversation Recovered From An Alternate Timeline

Like a bootleg VHS from another timeline, here's the David Lynch & Cher conversation that never happened.
The brilliance of The Talk: Cher & David Lynch lies in the fact that it doesn’t matter whether it is real. It feels real. This genius video montage by Copenhagen-based artist Jonas Hollerup Helle exists in that uncanny space David Lynch himself often explored: somewhere between authenticity and dream logic. By placing both figures inside a black void stripped of context, they become celebrities suspended in an alternate timeline of late-night television.
Even when you are fully informed and aware it is all fabricated, a few sentences into the interview, your brain stops resisting that very thought: the conversation becomes hypnotic and even the pauses start to feel meaningful. Compared to the endless wave of AI slop flooding the internet right now, this meticulously assembled montage feels like the exact opposite: a bootleg VHS tape full of imperfections, awkward pauses, and ambiguity.
Helle understands that Lynchian atmosphere is not about weirdness for weirdness’ sake, but about about rhythm and pacing. Silence. Slight discomfort. The feeling that something dark is hanging in the air… and, apparently, directly over Cher.

Definitely check out the other episodes of The Talk (“Conversations that never took place between people who never met.”) on YouTube, including this one starring Kyle MacLachlan… in conversation with Madonna!
