Pittsburgh based artist Mike Egan has spent five years as an embalmer in funeral homes. That probably explains why his paintings usually tell stories about death, devils and saints. Quoting influences such as Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), stained glass windows, Basquiat, The German Expressionists (Kathe Kollewitz, Otto Dix, and Max Beckman in particular), Mexican folk art, and religious icons, it’s no surprise there’s a macabre vibe coming from Mike’s latest work, a portrait series celebrating Twin Peaks.
“I like to think that each painting is in some way a goodbye to somebody who passed away. A funeral portrait.” —Mike Egan
Starting today, the artist is selling the seven original acrylic paintings on wood (9″ x 9″) for $200 each, while signed and numbered 7″ x 7″ giclee prints (on 11″ x 8.5″ Epson Hot Press Bright Fine Art Paper) are available for $30 each. He’s also doing complete print sets featuring all seven characters priced at $200 (limited to 10 sets). Head over to Mike’s shop and website if you’re interested.
