If it's capital "A" Art, that means even Lynch doesn't know its true meaning.
Who does?

Oh, I totally do. I'm just not telling the rest of you.

Wanna arm wrestle?
And now all I can think of is:
"You on the rag?"
"WHAT IF I FUCKING WAS???"
😉
I honestly think that Lynch doesn't even know it's true meaning.
If he feels motivated to put an idea on screen...he puts it in.
We fill in the blanks ourselves.
FWWM and MD I think are unique as they are more narrative in structure and I believe Lynch was fully aware of all the pieces being put in place. IE, LH and the Return...not so much. He was more concerned with creative and philosophical impulses while we filled in the narrative structure.
So...yes...I agree...trying to make "sense" of it is mental pud tugging.
... are 90-95% of the posts here merely mental masturbation? 😐

P.S. I really hesitated putting this topic up. Sorry in advance if it offends anyone. 😉
Mental masturbation? Lol maybe, but I think mental calisthenics is also applicable.
Whether we will ever arrive at a theory that will satisfy us is debatable (just a theory, never mind finding out the True Meaning). However, the one thing TP does is make us think.
Is it an entertaining show? Yes, but it is also an intellectual challenge that makes us contemplate life, death, time, art, the nature of reality, free will and existence itself. Yes it can be frustrating at times, even maddening, but how many shows can evoke this much emotional and mental response from viewers?
One can argue that the ultimate goal in Twin Peaks is to find out its real meaning. But I believe there is no one single answer. Even if Lynch intended the meaning to be this or that, that doesn't make other interpretations any less valid provided there is reasoning applied.
One can also say these efforts are exercises in futility because we will never arrive at our destination, the truth. But it's not really about the destination, but the intellectual, mental and emotional journey that matters in the end.
Every interpretation has value, what it means to you is as important as what it means to Lynch. It's all about feeling, frequency, vibration.

Very well stated and I agree. Your point about the journey is something that I've been trying to argue since the finale ended.
Re: capital T truth - this idea is particularly relevant, IMO, as the way in which many seem to be experiencing, engaging with, contemplating and ultimately accepting TPTR, and especially the finale, is almost like a metaphor for life (general signifier): most of us seek (T)ruth with regard to some of life's great mysteries - existence and reality - and find some kind of answers through science, religion, philosophy, experience, meditation, etc. Some of the TPTR theories are an insight into how the theorizer has answered those questions in his/her own life, IMO.
In other words, there may or may not be a (T)ruth to the Twin Peaks narrative but each of us will end up accepting the truth of how we "see" it. It can be an uncomfortable and challenging process.

Good post, I think a lot of people feel that way.
But I just wanted to comment on the line above. Almost everyone here, I guess, thought my apology was for the mention of masturbation. That surprised me. It wasn't.
What I was apologizing in advance for advancing the idea that 90-95% might have no useful purpose, other than ultimately-useless self-gratification. And, of course, I do not believe that!

Hmmm...
Since we all missed the bleeding obvious, what with the sync idea, I guess we really are a bunch of wankers.
