I don't begrudge anyone their opinions, but perhaps they deserve their own space, snd then those who want to piss on it and those who want to explore it  don't end up yelling st each other?

I suspect there may even be a competition for who hated it the most and who has not enjoyed a single minute...   😉

I dunno.  I kind of like the dissension.  And it's been yrev very interesting to watch the processes today.

I haven't noticed anyone yelling in the last few hours.  Did I miss a brawl?

That's because they don't want to face the wrath of Detective Brandy.

Oh, I've no problem with folk saying 'I didn't like x bit because...' as I'm sure we've all got parts like that - it's the 'OMG this has been soooooo bad & rubbish & I've wasted hours of my life & you are all *insert insult of choice*'

That kinda thing.

It's been interesting to watch how things have changed and adjusted now that some hours (almost 24 hours for some) has passed and the "reality" has set in.

I'm still not decided on whether I hated it or loved it or both. But I can definitely note the changes I've undertaken today. And the haters have been a big part of that. I think if all I saw were "that was so awesome" posts, I would be more confused and alienated feeling. But seeing the animosity and distaste has been as equally helpful in being assured that my confusion is not something simply wrong with me.

Making it to the acceptance phase slowly but surely.

It's easy enough to avoid the "it sucks because it's stupid" posts.

Yes, I've noticed. I don't understand the "I've wasted 17 Sunday nights!!" posts - um-- how could they not realize they weren't into it before the finale?---- Well, there are always some people who like to have a competition to see who can hate something the most - a movie, a band, a TV show, anything with some prominence which has fans. It's an odd way to spend time. They thrive on negativity I guess. Something like angry kids acting out because they enjoy the attention it gets them, even though it's negative attention and they actually just want love.

WOW so those of us who did not like the finale must now be segregated from the more "enlightened" on the forum?

Guess our opinions triggered you.

Not sure I'm really comfortable with that.

Last night, when the show ended, I said to my spouse that I hated the ending and this had all been a waste of time. He didn't say, "I'm sorry, but can you go find a different house to express those feeelings in?"

My spouse loved the ending and, through talking with him, I've come to open my mind to it a bit more. Still not onboard with it completely, but hearing his thoughts and theories has helped.

No doubt, for those coming here who are disillusioned and upset by the ending, perhaps engaging with others might help them look at it through a different lens? Or not. Some may never like it. And that's ok.

What's not ok, in my mind, is suddenly segregating ourselves and telling those who have issues with the finale (and in retrospect the show as a whole) to go away, we don't want to hear it because it doesn't conform to our opinion.

That's actually the problem with the world in a nutshell right now.

As long as we can discuss, it's ok

I for myself was only dissapointed by one thing, the evolution of Philip Jeffries, that's the only thing about The Return I thought was "lame"

I am not sure why you would equate not liking the finale with someone not liking the episodes preceding such - I think that those of us who disliked the finale enjoyed the ride along the way and were disappointed with the finale - as for me - I will treasure Episodes 1-16 and ignore 17&18.  I do not feel as if I wasted 18 hours - but I feel like I wasted 2 hours last night.

And, like you said - there are always people who compete to be the ultimate "hater" just like there are always people competing to show how much they "understood" the meaning of something compared to the rest of us

Circle of life.

I don't think MJ at all intended this as so much a segregation.  It was stated "so we don't start yelling at each other" To me this was saying that MJ didn't want to disrespectful fighting that has gone on.

I could be wrong and I apologize for speaking for you out of turn MJ.  You have always had very respectful and insightful and funny posts. Paul would be proud.

I don't really have a problem with anyone hating the ending, or feeling the whole thing was a sham.  I only have a problem with people disparaging others who enjoyed the Return and/or its ending (or at least found it interesting and haven't made up their mind yet).  There isn't any clear answer to any of it, so having a respectful discussion is helpful.

I've been disparaged for NOT liking the finale - yet I have not called for segregation.  Our society is becoming such a society of "victimhood" and "my feelings mean more than yours"

Debate used to be an intellectual pursuit, with arguments posited by both sides – where, if one side had a strong enough argument and evidence for such, the other side could be persuaded.  However, our society has moved further and further away from this type of debate and, as such, caused us all to become so entrenched in our own worlds that the intellectual pursuit of debate has become a shouting match.
