And all those lights, plus that random spotlight flying around the backyard. I thought of the black lodge immediately.
Also, their electricity bill is going to be enormous. I know, Cooper won the jackpots (MR jackpots), but Mullins had better give him a good raise or this situation isn't gonna be sustainable. Unless the Mitchum brothers have him covered...hm.
I might be thinking a bit too hard about this. They've probably got it figured out.
Electricity is relatively cheap in the UK, even with the companies hiking the price beyond all reason. The main reason for the "relatively cheap" is because most lighting these days is LED, which costs a tiny fraction of those old, steampunk burning wire bulbs. Even the street lights round here are LEDs, which are not only a better quality light than the old yellow sodium lamps, but they also create less light pollution, being far more directional.
People here have gone for outdoor lighting in a big way, and at Christmas, some of the houses make the Griswald residence look tasteful and restrained.
The weird unreality of that scene fed my suspicion that SJ is sometihg other than "real" (though I am fond of the notion that SJ IS the 10 year old Dale, pulled out of time...(-;
It looked like a normal reaction of a kid receiving such a gift to play on.
Latin kid, doubt they would've chosen him to be Cooper as a child.
1. I have a very different impression from you of SJ's behavior on the gym. I see it as mechanical, repetitive, joyless.
2. "Latin kid"? Not sure where you get that. From the actor's name? Pierce Gagnon does not strike me as a "Latin" name. There is nothing about his visual appearance that pigeonholes this actor as being of any given ethnicity. And he is playing the son of Naomi Watts and Kyle MacLachlan (unless of course the speculation about adoption is true, though not hinted at by ANYTHING in the show. Maybe he is related to Little Nicky).
My little pet theory about SJ is mostly for fun, but there is SOMETHING up there (I just don't think "Latinity" has aught to do with it...)
Repetitive indeed! Same goes for the programme Sarah was watching. Perhaps also the curtain in Nadine's store?
Was the Sonny Jim and Dougie Coop baseball scene from episode out of chronological sequence? I had the impression the Mitchum brothers conga-line was the culmination of the party started when they ate cherry pie at the casino.
That's a good point. I also assumed they took him out to dinner and partied all night. Hm.
And someone else brought up the spotlight. The spotlight, to my memory, has showed up for the giant in the original series. It showed up for Seniorita Dido in episode 8. It also showed up when Bob attacked Maddy. So in the gym scene it could just be part of the playground equipment or it could be a significant parallel.
When I first saw that spotlight, I really thought that the Giant would appear. But no. I know it has been suggested before that Sonny Jim is the Giant, with that "thumbs up" thing, and with that spotlight it wouldn't have been completely out of place to suggest that the Giant would appear. Is DL playing with us? Laying out all these small things that will seem like clues, but maybe is nothing of that sort at all? Just him playing with us?
Anyway, for what it's worth, here's Swan Lake, music box version:
It's such a sad and in the same time beautiful melody. Just like the Twin Peaks Theme, if you ask me. And here's an music box version of the Twin Peaks Theme:
Thank you, youtube.
Nah, it's just yer regular "Las Vegas gymset"
Poor Sonny will hurt himself on these tie-wraps holding the ledstrips tho
When SJ bounces off the trampoline it reminds me of one of the lodge scenes, I was thinking it was the "jumping man", the guy in the red shirt with the white mardi gras style mask, but I couldn't find the specific scene. Anyone else recall something similar?
I was just glad to see the kid somewhat happy for once. In my recollection, we've only seen him smile once before when SJ and Dougie were having their "Clap on, clap off" battle.

You're forgetting the breakfast "Take Five" scene. Which was, IMO, one of the standout scenes in the entire series, so shame on you. 😉
Repetition definitely a theme but that's what kids do on gym sets, often the same move. Less appropriate for adults who should know better - Ed Hurley I'm looking at you... Eating takeaway from the RR Diner as, once again, a douchebag hits on Norma...

Yes indeed, shame on me.
He just seems like such a miserable child.

Nope. Quiet, self contained. As was I as a child. No idea what happened after that.

So basically he's the kid from "The Ring."
