David Lynch has created a remix of Mylène Farmer’s 1999 hit song “Je Te Rends Ton Amour” for her “Remix XL” album dropping today, April 19, 2024. Makes you wish you spoke a little French, huh?
Well, it translates to “I’m Giving You Your Love Back” and song’s lyrics refer to the art of painting in various ways. The hugely popular second single from the French artist’s 5th studio album, Innamoramento, was released on 8 June 1999 and gained immense popularity. Its controversial music video (link) faced censorship from several television channels due to depictions of nudity and possible criticism of the Church.
Mylène Farmer is a longtime admirer of David Lynch, with her song “Psychiatric” even sampling John Hurt’s lines “I am not an animal, I am a human being” from “The Elephant Man.” According to an interview with Paris Match, David Lynch introduced the French singer to lithography, and rumor has it she was asked to perform at the Roadhouse in Twin Peaks: The Return but had to decline due to a conflicting schedules.
David is a versatile genius. A bubbling mystic. His lithographic work is remarkable. Just like his cinematographic work. I loved the way he introduced me to this technique. Discreet and reassuring.

David Lynch’s version of “Je Te Rends Ton Amour” strips down the original composition, reducing its guitars and percussion, resulting in a more ominous tone. Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments.
