It was pretty amazing to see this stuff on the big screen over the weekend. I didn't make it to everything, but Part 8 was a highlight, of course. The sound was the biggest thing, for me, but the whole theater experience was great. Highly recommend doing it if you ever get the chance. George Griffith (Ray) was there on Saturday. Many applauded on Friday when Shelly said "James has always been cool."... Good times, all around.
The most striking thing for me was that I could clearly hear the klaxon/alarm sound from Part 8 during the scene in the "mansion room" of Part 3. That's got me thinking about how these spaces and times relate to one another.
Anyway, my compatriot Mike made it to some of what I missed, and vice versa. We sat down yesterday and recorded a little podcast, if anyone is interested.
Brilliant, thanks Cameron (and Mike)! I will give this a listen when I've got the time to devote the proper attention to it that ot deserves. Are downloads enabled so I can stick on my ipod?
Glad you had a great time.

I thought they were, but I just checked and had to click the thing to enable for this one. I guess it might be something one has to do with each individual episode. I will try to make the time to go through and do that for all of them at some point. I don't see why not.
Yes, it was transcendent. I made it there for all parts. The line that drew the largest applause of them all was "I am the FBI." Yep, I teared up. I thought about how this was such a different kind of emotion than most tearjerkers, when our guts are usually struck by a character passing on. Instead, this was a character coming back to life in a bizarre, innovative way. I had always thought of this season as a long-form piece of music, with the composer dragging us in different directions, putting up more obstacles on the journey toward a cadence (the return to the key center we always hear at the end of a classical composition); it seems clear now that Coop's line there is THE cadence (for me at least) and then Parts 17 and 18 are, in a way, even less important (if I'm thinking of it as a piece of music and what might come after the grand cadence).
The weirdest thing was laughing with so many people. I mean, we had always known that the Dougie story was packed with slapstick and that Gordon Cole is hilarious, but being in a room with people pointed to more and more spots that evoked laughter. Sometimes I even got peeved at people laughing so much during some scenes; nevertheless, it was special to see it with so many people. It was so nice to applaud with everyone...
Then again, if I had to go back, wipe my memory, and watch again from the start, I'd say that watching the first four episodes in a pitch black apartment alone was the best choice; I was scared sh*tless by Mr. C, "Mother," etc.
Back to the theater, the sound and the big screen were very special. (Sitting on those hard seats for 18 hours was bum numbing, but oh well.) And did you notice that the plane's windows weren't flashing any "morse code" or anything?? Some techie people wondered if that special "code" we thought we were seeing months ago was just an artifact of the original-quality footage being compressed for TV quality.
George was back on Sunday, and I got to shake his hand. I had thought Ray's facial qualities matched so well with those 70s hot rod cars in setting the tone of the first few episodes, so it was great to meet him. All around a wonderful weekend!
Yeah, the amount of laughter was striking and there were indeed moments where it struck me as excessive. But, that's cool. It gets to an interesting question about Lynchian humor, because it seemed to me most did not seem to take Mr. C to be as funny as I do. Anyway, it was a great experience, and nice to meet you, however briefly.
I am curious about the plane windows. No one seemed to crack a code there originally, but then again we were all quickly distracted by Part 8 airing. It's interesting that the effect was not present in the DCP. Maybe it is what you said, and thus that there really isn't anything there to focus on.
Cool that you met George. Maybe cooler is that he was apparently there for the same reason as the rest of us!
I have to go back to that part (episode) but I'm almost sure that the effect was shown again at the end of it during the Lynch/Frost Productions logo. So, I doubt it was an accident. Anyway, it's quite intriguing that it wasn't present at the screening.

Is it possible that the plane windows is just another indication of non-linear time fluctuations or of something not being quite right with the universe?
Also, a fellow with degrees in sound design (and wrote his masters thesis on Lynch) pointed out to me Saturday night that when Diane, Gordon, and Tammy are on the steps with Diane smoking (Buckhorn police station I think), Tammy was muted! In the Showtime stream, she briefly chastises Gordon for taking a drag. The sound specialist said it could also be an issue w the transfer to the DCP given to MOMA. Orrrr maybe Lynch was making final tweaks. The blu-rays probably have the answer.
Thats small beans. The real point is, if this is ever shown in a boutique theater by anyone else, it is worth seeing en groupe!

Maybe if Ep 18 was a trip to our “real” dimension, some butterfly effect changed the video!! ... I have no idea.

It's so interesting and odd and a little disturbing to read old theories and conversations now, after so much time and after finally seeing the ending. Damn, we were all soooooo wrong.

And that's the beauty of it.☺

Indeed.
