Is anyone else having a difficult time watching other shows now? It seems like every time I watch a show, I find myself in the TPTR mindset, watching too closely, listening too intently, looking for any clue, oddity or indicator of something that ties it all together or possibly answers any little question.
I've been watching American Gods at the referral of many of you and where it is an intense and odd show, I still keep expecting accidentally expecting it to be a Lynch/Frost creation. Am I ruined forever?
Also, looking for more recommendations that might be able to fill this void. What you got for me?
Yes, it's been very difficult for me too. Last weekend I watched that documentary "Room 237" about "The Shining" and I think any TP fan would find that fascinating. I'm also re-visiting Lars Von Trier's work, specifically his 2011 film "Melancholia". It's very Lynchian.
Melancholia was my favorite of the trilogy (though Uma Thurman in Nymphomaniac made my year the year of release).
I have found myself switching off tv shows lately as they hold no interest anymore and are so boring and dull in comparison.
I think I'm just going to have to watch TP, FWWM and TPTR again and by the time I have finished, Mr Robot should have started up again.
Did you watch Person of Interest? That's the only other programme I got seriously hooked on. Just as it seems to settle into a routine, things start to get more complex...
It's also got some of the best female characters ever! 🙂

Ric mentioned Wild Palms. Just like Carnivale, I very much see it as a fill-in for the excitement I get from Twin Peaks. Interestingly, I can now say that all 3 have ended in a way that disappointed me at some level.
Lots of recommendations, many I have seen and many I haven't. Thanks so much guys.
Starting my list, keep 'em coming.
It took a while for me to take the plunge and find a new series, one that challenges my understanding of what makes good TV.
I'm happy to say I've found something. It's not quite Twin Peaks The Return - let's be honest, that was a one off piece of art. But, in the meantime, the following series is so captivating and groundbreaking, that I feel I can at least move on with LWTP (life without twin peaks):

LOL Dude wtf?!

I actually watch Youtube videos of people driving their ATVS down endless logging roads in remote sections of the North Maine Woods regions. It's the only way I ever can see it, much like this great selection by Mynok.

I started to watch Person of Interest years ago and think I will get caught up on that one. When Lost concluded, the character I missed the most was Michael Emerson. (Ben Linus) and I followed him into POI. I should have stayed with it. I actually watch a lot of science fiction, like The Hundred. But none of these shows has TP magic.
I actually follow a lot of historical drama. British Royalty, Turkish Sultans, Vikings, Genghis, Attila, etc.
Mrs Therapy recommended Black Mirror to me, and seeing as it's written by a guy I like a hell of a lot, I may have to give it a go. Mr Robot looks like something I could get into, too.
As you know, I don't have TV Hobby so I find it difficult to sit in front of a screen as a passive observer. TP made a lot of my brain work, so I'd definitely be looking for something to do that to me again. It's not about a short attention span, either; it's about being a fussy bugger when it comes to what I watch.
In the main, I'd rather be doing almost anything than watching telly. Even the time I spend online is an aside to the other stuff I do; the computer is on most of the time and a good deal of it is spent building stuff, creating textures and rendering images. Otherwise, I like to draw and paint the old fashioned way, play me guitar and do all the other stuff that goes with having young children and weird cats. Right now, though, I am saving the Universe from rampaging alien hordes on my Amiga emulator, kicking back and cracking a few cans of Draught Guinness. It's a hard life, but someone has to do it. 😉
I'm just not really a television watcher (though I recommend Six Feet Under - but that's kinda straight forward so to speak), so I'm going to drop some more mind-melt films (without going too far "out there").
Gilliam's "Twelve Monkeys"
Kurosawa's "Dreams" (Not his best film, but nice intro to his work and FWIW - some dreams are better than others.)
Malick's "The Tree of Life"
Kieślowski's "The Double Life of Veronique" (Not so much a mind-melter but an identity questioner. His color trilogy I'd highly recommend as well.)
Assaya's "Demonlover" (a controversial one for sure.)
Jaramusch's "Mystery Train" and "Dead Man" (After logging-off the other day, it hit me that the two aforementioned are more Lynchian . . . can you tell I'm a fan of his work? ?)
"Open Your Eyes" (Crowe stole this one: "Vanilla Sky")
"Under the Skin"
"Coherence"
"Ex Machina"
----------------------
For an uncanny indie-laugh-fest: "The Lobster" and "Wristcutters: A Love Story."
edit: I too am going to tackle Mr Robot at some point soon since the creator is a Lynch fan and ripped a lot of his ideas from Lynch and Fight Club (big fan of Palahniuk and Fincher).
Maybe we should start a Mr. Robot thread in the off topics while we all wait for the final dossier. 🙂
I'm also quite curious how Rami Malek will do as Freddie Mercury.
You guys are amazing! Thanks for all the recommendations. My list continues to grow. Season 2 of American Gods is a LONG way off and I blew through season 1 way too fast.
Caoi, we have fairly similar taste in movies.
I wonder what Pieter watches when he isn't watching us.............

Good deal and can't even fathom a guess. Pieter, what are you into other than Lynch (Hello. Hello. Hello. Is they anybody out there? Just nod if you can hear us . . .)?
Malick's "The Tree of Life"
It was certainly an interesting film, but I felt it suffered a little from director's pretentiousness 😀

Is there anyone home?
Come on now, I hear you're feelin down........
