Is anyone else having a difficult time watching other shows now? It seems like every time I watch a show, I find myself in the TPTR mindset, watching too closely, listening too intently, looking for any clue, oddity or indicator of something that ties it all together or possibly answers any little question.

I've been watching American Gods at the referral of many of you and where it is an intense and odd show, I still keep expecting accidentally expecting it to be a Lynch/Frost creation. Am I ruined forever?

Also, looking for more recommendations that might be able to fill this void.  What you got for me?

I haven't been able to watch almost anything at all! However I did watch the movie The Room the other night and even as it's one of the worst movies ever made all I saw were similarities to Twin Peaks. For those who haven't seen it check out the first trailer to The Disaster Artist so that you can fully enjoy my first meme

I haven't started any new shows since TPTR, and there are at least a couple I could be watching. I'm pretty sure it hasn't ruined TV for me forever, but I think I'll need a longish cooling-off period before "normal shows" (by which I mean basically everything else in the TV universe) start to feel satisfying again.

I guess I'd just say no show has ever challenged me as much as TPTR, and right now the other shows just feel a little too easy. They'll have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and maybe there'll be a few threads left hanging or a few ambiguities for fans to debate, but it won't be anything like this fascinating wilderness of mysteries that TPTR has left us.

I think it'll pass, but I definitely feel like I've been... recalibrated.

Recalibrated.  I like that.  May I use in the future?

There has never been another show that has made me think as much as Twin Peaks.  I don't have premium cable channels, so there may be some things on HBO, etc. that are similar, but I can't see them.  Part of the excitement of Season 3 for me was being able to recreate the mindset that I felt with the original series.  The difference is that when I watched S1&2 I had no internet input.  Season 3 has really been enhanced by the fact that i could learn things from other people.  I don't see any other programs that would bring the same level of interest that leads to the sharing of ideas like TPTR.  It is a bummer that it's over.

TP was mentally taxing, so I actually welcome the opportunity to watch regular shows again. After  the show ended, I binged on Marvel's Defenders and currently watching American Horror Story: Cult. They don't challenge me like TP of course, but it's kinda nice to be able to turn my brain off and just enjoy the action.

Yes, it's been very difficult for me too. Last weekend I watched that documentary "Room 237" about "The Shining" and I think any TP fan would find that fascinating. I'm also re-visiting Lars Von Trier's work, specifically his 2011 film "Melancholia". It's very Lynchian.

Yeah there's really nothing quite in the league of TP unless you go to classic brainy dark movies by Kubrick, Ingmar Bergman, and Fellini. I think they're all Lynch influences too.

Try maybe Bergman's "Seventh Seal", Fellini's "8 and a half" for meta aspects and Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon" for atmosphere and slow deliberate meaningful storytelling.

Hi Brandy,

Also, looking for more recommendations that might be able to fill this void.  What you got for me?

TV shows:

http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/lists/20-tv-shows-most-influenced-by-twin-peaks-w481390/wild-palms-w481565

Of those I would recommend:  Carnivale, Legion, and Wild Palms as the most Twin Peaks- like, keeping in mind, of course, that Twin Peaks is unique.  Caveat emptor.  😉

Honorable mention for Fringe for this:

In one episode, John Noble’s madman genius Walter Bishop mentions that some 3D glasses "were created by an old friend of mine: Dr. Jacoby from Washington State." And in a later episode, his son Peter (Joshua Jackson) would find himself in an eerie, heavily forested small town famous for its delicious pies. (Die-hard Twin Peaks fans also appreciated the episode's title, "Northwest Passage" – the name Lynch originally used for his show.)  =:-O

Movies:

Here are some of the more modern movies influenced by Lynch, instead of the usual list of those that had an influence on Lynch:

Donnie Darko,

(damn good) Pi,

Being John Malkovich,

Jacob's Ladder,

Naked Lynch Lunch

and Barton Fink.

These might feed the habit a little.  Same caveat.  Your mileage may vary.

😉

I'm currently watching the new Phillip K Dick series on Channel 4 and Rellik on BBC1 which is a murder investigation told backwards which isn't too bad.  Also Black Lake on BBC4 a Swedish ghost story which is quite good.

Good movie. Predictable, but still enjoyable.

Pretty good film choices here. I'll add:

Jaramusch's Night on Earth

Refn's Neon Demon

Linklater's A Scanner Darkly

for now.
