Let me start with a two-part preface:
1. I've had a few glasses of bourbon (while watching Season 3, obviously) and...
2. I haven't read every thread on here...
That said, why isn't anyone talking about Beelzebub? The Final Dossier describes how Joudey (sp? (RE: a few drinks...)) is seeking Beelzebub for what I'll paraphrase as some 'cataclysmic shit.'
Cole (I think, maybe this happened in the Final Dossier) described the shortening of Joudey to 'Judy' over time...etc...
I thought it seem pretty obvious, given the aforementioned shortening (and other terrible shit), that Beelzebub (from the Final Dossier) would be shortened to 'Bub' and then probably be English-ified into 'BOB.' Especially considering the vessel containing BOB (Mr. C aka the Dweller on the Threshold) was clearly trying to reunite with this character to start aforementioned cataclysmic shit.
Anyone else? Can we all agree that Beelzebub is BOB? Was this discussed previously and my bourboned-out head missed it?
Cool. Thanks.
I for one don't remember it suggested before. To be fair, the first 4 months or so of the forum was so prolific that I doubt I read half of what got posted.
That's a solid suggestion I'd say. So what is the backstory, who has to reunite with whom for this CS* to happen (*Cataclysmic Shit; not to be confused with the cataclysmic shits, which is something else entirely).
If I'm remembering real history and not just TV, wasn't there an Egyptian myth of some King reuniting with his Queen to bring about the end of the world? A lot of these end of days myths seem to have common themes. I'm curious now.
I don't remember it either. Do you have a page number for quick reference?
I think the entity was called Ba'al not Beelzebub, in this story.
From the Final Dossier :
Joudy, it turns out, is also the name of an ancient entity in Sumerian mythology. (This dates back to at least 3000 B.C.)
The name was used to describe a species of wandering demon—also generically known as an utukku—that had “escaped from the underworld” and roamed freely throughout the earth, where they feasted on human flesh and, allegedly, ripped the souls from their victims, which provided even more meaningful nourishment.
They particularly thrived while feeding—and I quote—“on human suffering.”
These beings were said to appear in both male and female forms—“Joudy” indicated the female, and the male was known as “Ba’al”—and, while they were considered beyond dangerous individually, if a male and a female ever united while on the earth, the ancient texts claimed, their resulting “marriage” would create something far more perilous.
As in: the end of the world as we know it.
A few centuries later, Ba’al becomes better known, in both Christian and Islamic sources, as “Beelzebub,” a false god, or, as he’s known more generally and generically today, the devil.
Phillip Jeffries :
"I'm not gonna talk about Judy; in fact, we're not gonna talk about Judy at all...but I can sing about Baal..."
That's an interesting theory, and as good as any other I've heard on the subject to date. Since we're supposed to figure out what really happened ourselves, it certainly works for me, in this case.
Ba'al, Beelzebub, the devil.. these are all at least moderately commonly referenced in modern day media. Why has Joudy fallen out of mention entirely? Or has she also changed names? I can't think of many female demons in Judeo-Christian. Of course I'm not real up on that jazz.
Mephisto, Lucifer, Abbadon, Baphomet, um, Krampus...Women can't rule the underworld?

Many people googled "Joudy" when the Final Dossier was published.
Nobody found "her".
I'm afraid that "Joudy" was manufactured by Frost to match with the TV series.

There are still glass ceilings in hell.

Don't feel bad, no one else has either. Except for Brandy, of course. 😉

After the events of Twin Peaks: The Return, I think he now prefers the name:
Beelze-BOB, or more precisely, Baal-Ze-BOB
