Do you think Dougie knew he was created?

I'm feel very sorry and a little sad for the (old) Dougie - forced back to the lodge and effectively destroyed, leaving behind a son and a wife.

We also learnt in episode 9 that he had a car accident that left him not quite the same, a bit slower.

My lingering questions about Dougie are:

Did he know he was created?

Was he a dwelling spirit in the lodge?

Was his soul (if he even had one) created for this purpose, or was the body created for an existing (Dougie) soul to inhabit it?

Well I think but I might be wrong that Dougie doesn't have a soul... That's why it's not worth to feel sorry for him  even if it's difficult, I know cause I did the same... My interpretation of non-exist-ent is that it may be Dougie. In the Lodge his head turned into some black burnt vomiting piece of meat, the rest of his body became a little gold ball. Gold as maybe a bit of respect for his life? Cause maybe he didn't have a soul but he did have a life. "Luckily" his family and coworkers still have Dougie around. Tiny detail is that is not Dougie... I am really courious how this plot will be resolved.

That's an interesting take. It still makes me sad though, because there is a memory of a father, a husband. I for one think that Dougie's spirit moved on to some other plane after he was disposed of.

The non existent theory is interesting.

I'm sure some of you already know my thoughts on souls but for the record, since I don't believe souls exist, it's an irrelevance in Dougie's case.

That he lived, interacted with people and left a mark, however small, on the world is enough to make me feel sorry for him.  He certainly believed he was alive; whether he was as alive as you or I is another matter.

It is sad just like actually... death. Me personally I am agnostic, basically atheist with hope or will, you name it, for the existence and immortality of the soul, but what if not? What if this is what awaits us all? Non existence.. It is, in fact, very sad...

Regardless of what anyone believes, in the Twin Peaks universe, souls do exist. Was that little bead of gold his soul? Or was it some kind of astral/lodge artifact left behind?

Dougie had a very kind face. That's what I think I find sad about his demise. I'd like to know the mechanics.

In short, I'd like to think that his existence was not wasted, and that he can move on to the white lodge or whatever plane is ready for him.

What of the ring? Why did he have the owl ring? And what does the owl ring actually do?

Agh... I can't wait for the next episode 🙂

Whatever this is all about, Dougie's life was not pointless. He left wife and son and thanks to his life, our Dale got safe place to land back to our world.

This is true, in TP universe people have soul which is great. Dougie however was not a human being per se, he was "manufactured for a purpose", he doesn't exist anymore but actually he never existed. We don't know what kind of person he was, Probably not some evil master like Mr C, yet cheating his wife with prostitues, gambling made him vomiting something disgusting but in smaller and less toxic volume.
