I still can't get past what an 'awaken' Dougie will mean to his inherited family. Does Dale say, "Well, your not my family, have a great life, I'm headed to Twin Peaks/FBI." Just doesn't seem to be in Coop's character to leave like that much the way a relationship with Audrey was not in character in the original series (and thus changed).
This leads me to some thoughts:
- This suggest the horrible possibility we are stuck with broken Dale.
- This suggest the family must die to avoid the complication.
- This suggest good Dale may die quickly after coming back to us.
- This suggest, and the least Lynchy possibility, that he wakes up, saves the day, and settles down raising Dougie's kid. (Yeah this one makes me laugh too!)
I can't see other paths forward on the Vegas story line.
Somewhere in these boards, in one of the earlier episodes subforums, I advocated how much of a lynchian dream/nightmare the last outcome in your list would actually be, if the only way for good Dale to have a 'normal life' ended up being living an existence (Dougie Jones') that will never be entirely his own. Something beautiful and sweet but, at the same time, so far removed from all he was/could've been. On several levels, it'd be akin to the very ending of Mulholland Drive.
One reason why I don't think is going to end like this, however, is that it doesn't feel like we are going to get that much of a 'clear cut' ending.
Option 1 is not going to happen. We have seen enough in the trailers and heard enough in interviews to know that.
I think I'd like to see Janey-E and Sonny Jim moving to TP.
They'd fit right in!
(In my head I'm seeing super-power Nadine and Janey-E going at it).
Option 4 actually is very, very possible, the only thing against it that for the moment Dale doesn't really feel anything for Jane-E (Jade brings smile to his face, not his wife). He obviously has a connection with Sonny Jim, but that's just the only kid around, and as we know from the car crash scene kids got this special thing, that may attract people with Lodge experience.
I mentioned on another thread that I believe Cooper and his new found family will go to Twin Peaks eventually.
Something else to consider: ISTR reading that the show was as much about Dale Cooper's return from his 25 year exile, so don't be too surprised if he wakes up just as the end credits from the final episode start to roll.

I wouldn't think it'll be that near the end since he has to face Doppel-Dale and kill/send him back to the red room / black lodge.
P.S. anyone actually think good Dale is not going to win that fight?

I have been dreading this possibility for a while now, keep hoping that's not the way it goes.
@GaryMe, I also thought about this a lot! I think good Dale will win, but there's going to be something bitter about it anyway. Not sure what, I think it's early to tell, there's still 10 episodes for this to unravel.
The fact that Jane-E and Sunny Jim have strange names, and that they behave so oddly (Jane-E gets over Jade awfuly quick. Sunny Jim sleeps with the lights on. Jane-E has apparently been tolerating Dougie's brainless behavior for years, and has no job of her own for some reason.) tells me that Jane-E and Sunny Jim are also manufactured people, or at least not what they seem.
They're going to transform back into their true selves, whatever that is.

Too much being made of their names. I know people with much odder, real life names. The little lad sleeps with the light on, so what? So does my son and he's around the same age.
Janey-E is most likely short for Janey-Ella/Janey-Elizabeth or some such. Sunny Jim may not be a plain vanilla name but it's not as strange as Moon Unit Zappa, which is a real life person. Besides which, his real name may be James but they call him Sunny Jim because they think it's cute. Baby nicknames tend to stick around. My daughter - who is now 6 - is still called by her baby nickname at times.
Janey-E may be used to Dougie's philandering - some people are wilfully blind - or may be prepared to forgive him because he returned home with a huge chunk of change. In any event, she can see (even if she won't openly admit it) there's something wrong with him, so maybe she's keeping an open mind until she knows more.

Who says Dale has to kill his doppelganger? The doppelganger has to die but nowhere is it explicitly stated that the returned Cooper has to do it. The deal is, one of 'em has to die. Nothing about where, when, how or who does it.
Okay but what about the way Sunny Jim blinks backwards? I say the kid ain't human.
I'm not a hundred percent on the whole backwards blinking thing. I've watched it a few times and it could just be a quick double blink

You should see the way my son blinks when he's upset or nervous. Anyone say's he ain't human gets an appointment with my knuckles.
