What a perfect opportunity for Mr. Lynch to test the powers of his creation. If you all viewed this episode as I did, with eyes as big as saucers, hardly blinking so as not to miss a frame... he could've slipped in some subliminal messages that would reach millions of people all over the world. Can you imagine, for example, if everyone quit smoking cigarettes at the same time? Or for some reason people only tune their TV's to Showtime. Or ultimately, millions of dollars deposited into an account for funding of Season Four!
(hope he was in a good-white lodge kind of mood while adding the codes, haha)
HAHA! I actually wondered something similar, like this would be the perfect scenario for something like that. Glad I'm not the only one.
Well I'm glad Lynch is supposedly anti-war, otherwise I'd be worried about Amurricans thinking it's ok to pre-emptively nuke Kim Jong-un & North Korea back to stone age.
Don't know about hypnotism but the sound in the episode made my dog go crazy, maybe that's what he was trying to do!
It really reminded me of the bit in the original Willy Wonka where the boat goes through the tunnel & Gene Wilder is singing the hypnotic, creepy song...
- but with added demonic doulas; the malevolent glowing-eyed stagehands from Rust Never Sleeps; bits of the Wizard of Oz and the weird cockroach-froggy thing. All nuked together.

Great catch!, that scared the hell out of me in the theater when I first saw it!

And served with a side order of Kubrick....

I was thinking more in terms of Eraserhead meets the final half hour of 2001 A Space Odissey, but that's good imagery too.
"...bits of the Wizard of Oz"
See the film "Wild at Heart"
Well, good thing is pro-smoking too 🙂

Yes, the golden Laura-bubble reminded me of her Glinda-the-good-witch. Everything seems to be getting mashed together! 🙂

...along with a big dollop of Lovecraftian cosmic horror.

Except there's plenty of evidence to show subliminal imaging is a crock.
