I haven't followed the theories and conversations, I'm part of those who would rather forget about TP for a while and come back to it later with renewed interest once someone makes something out of the mess that the last episode was, lol.
Still, I can't help but wonder the motivations of characters.
- Mr. C: he wanted those coordinates... Probably coordinates to Jack Rabbit's palace. Why? What did he plan to do?
- Whoever trapped the fake coordinates and gave them to the 2 people who forwarded them: why? Why not simply trap the real coordinates?
- Why was Mr. C trapped in a cage in the lodge, but still, released back into TP instead of just 'forwarded' to the waiting room where he was being expected? I mean, it's been shown there's a way to travel between the two, so...?! So he gets killed by Freddie, cool... Now what of Freddie, does he get to keep the gloves stuck on his hand forever?
- Jeffries: motivation, please? For the phone calls? For the phone ringing in #15? For more #17 shenanigans?
- MIKE: motivation, please? For awaking Coop? For leading him through the convenience store to Jeffries? For sending him back in time?
- Coop: for coming back in time really?? What's up with Laura? Who cares?
- Diane: for following Coop in the other dimension? Why? Just, why? Sex, what for?
- The fireman: for saying 'remember 430'? So he already knew Coop would cross? Meaning he knew he'd go back in time, save Laura, lose her? Why not simply say, "don't go back in time for Laura, it's not worth it, and you won't have time to develop that story?" Why not simply say something more interesting? Is speech such a problem to him? In 25 years, he hasn't had time to tell him what was going to happen to him?
So many characters but that's already a lot...
Maybe someone else figured it out?
I don't know if there is an answer to all those questions, but make yourself a stuff drink and ready this:
Regarding Mr C and what he was looking for - my interpretation is that he was looking for the gateway to the Carrie Paige dimension, or possibly the past to find Laura Palmer and get BOB to possess her.
Some ideas I came up with:
I think the Fireman can't intervene directly. Dunno why but that's all I got. Most he can do is give people a push in the right direction, or the odd teleport now and again, so they get to where he wants them to be - in the real world - where events can take their course. He may not have the ability to zap creatures like Mr C back into the lodges but can move them around down here now and again, maybe only where they are at certain places.
Maybe he is speaking clearly but our teeny tiny brains can't comprehend it in all its multi dimensional glory. Same reason as we see all the stuff as old phonographs or big metal bell like structures, old movie theatres and so on. Our brains aren't wired up to understand.
Mr C's motivation, as far as the story goes, isn't all that important. It's enough to know that he wants something and is going all out to get it.
Mike was helping Cooper out of self interest. If he didn't get Bob and Mr C back where they belonged, it would be game over for everything.
Diane seems to be linked to the idea around "sex energy", something discussed in another thread. Dunno if it's correct but it's a workable interpretation. Most likely the Fireman planted the idea, or she has latent abilities.
Other stuff? Beats me.

I guess that he must be having the ring at his finger before going up to the red room.
Cooper have probably to put the ring himself to Mr C. finger.
