The film Vertigo is based on a French book called The Living and the Dead by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac published in 1956.

Nice. Will check that out...

The ending in the book is different to the film though.

Hi Christen,

I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't seen Vertigo OR Sunset Boulevard.  My homework list is getting long.  Love having lots of great films to watch for the first time though.

I truly envy you being able to watch both of these classics for the first time.

I would say, "I hope you enjoy them," but there's not really much doubt that you will!

😉

This whole thread makes me want to watch it as a group!  The only thing better than watching a great movie for the first time is watching it with a bunch of people that love it too.

I watched Vertigo a couple of weeks ago and Laura.  Also watched The Shining recently and the other day I watch Fellini's 8 and a half another influence on Lynch.  I haven't watched Sunset Boulevard for a couple of years now though.  The BFi had an article in July where they listed the top 10 films that influenced Lynch when making Twin Peaks.  They were things like Vertigo, Orphee, The Wicker Man, Out of the Past, Laura, One Eyed Jacks, Peyton Place, Une Femme est une Femme, Meshes in the Afternoon.
