As CommanderEnigma wrote, "...there is ugliness in life..." and one of the things I particularly value about the original Twin Peaks is that it gave me nightmares, often about Bob. As a direct result of those nightmares I started to become less and less fearful of monstrous/dark imagery when it appeared in my dreams, and less fearful in general.

The ugliness in Twin Peaks helped me mature and grow, so I wholeheartedly agree with the statement that "...there's incredible value in art that tackles difficult, issues involving pain and suffering..."

The Return was clearly dealing with guns proliferation in America as a subtext. I'm guessing this has Frost's fingerprints on it more than Lynch. Still if someone has an issue with an American show dealing with something that is very real in America (lets set aside any thoughts about what  the show might have to say about it for the moment), how did you get this far watching Lynch and Twin Peaks? This is a show that has dealt with sexual abuse and incest head on. You could take the idea expressed in the original post and say something very similar about that theme. "There's too much incest in this show for my liking. I've never known a father to rape his daughter. Fathers shouldn't go around raping their daughters.".

If all characters in a fictional work behaved in idealistic ways, it unfortunately wouldn't make for very compelling and realistic fictions. Because there is ugliness in life, and art has a right to deal with this ugliness head on. I'd actually say there's incredible value in art that tackles difficult, issues involving pain and suffering (*garmonbozia).

I think if there was a show that took place in a sleepy, small town in England, it would be unrealistic if people had guns. Sadly, this is not the case in America.

Well said.

I agree.

The NRA (in the UK) would certainly not love them.

Sometimes a woman just has to have her cheesy poofs!
The "poofs," "cheesy" or otherwise, wouldn't really be interested, would they?  😉

JUST KIDDING!!!  😉
