Anyway play 15 and 16, and look how good Nadine going with shovel to music from 16 🙂 That's the spirit.

I got interrupted earlier so just finally finished watching the synced mashup. I still can't say whether it's intentional or not but I will say this: It works.

It works much better than viewing the two parts separately. Is it just a happy accident? Is it agenticity, pareidolia, and apophenia rolled into one? I don't know that it matters. It works as a mashup. It makes more sense to me this way and I enjoyed it immensely (which is more than I can say for watching 18 alone).

I think you may have inadvertently hit upon the attraction of the sync theory which is the dissatisfaction with Episode 18 and it's disconnection from almost everything that came before. The sync ties them back together. While that may be satisfying , which I am fine with, I'm not sure that is what was intended.

I don't think David Lynch would mind, either, whether he intended such a thing or not (I tend to lean toward the unintentional happy accident view, pending word from Lynch and/or Frost). I feel it's like looking at a piece of still art with the naked eye and feeling meh about it, then while wearing Jacoby-style glasses and enjoying/appreciating it more. It's no insult to the artist that you like the work better with your Jacoby-specs. It's just an alternate view of the same work.

I think he and his editor have a template that they've been using for each part. Hence the synchronicities.

Since Lynch thinks movies should be watched on big screens, with perfect sounds and in perfect conditions, I doubt that he would approve of watching two episodes at the same time (a bit of a youtube generation thing I find.)

I walked away last week, quite happy with the ending and not quite 'getting' why people were so disappointed.  I flicked in & out of the forum over the last week.  I saw something about synching episodes up & watched some of it - then saw the last bit of episode 17 &18  and it completely freaked me out.

If folk don't want to get it - fair enough.  But I suspect a geek's delight has just been launched on the world!

Given the symmetry in the series, are the Rancho Rosa credits the clue?

Do the episodes that matching or opposite logos sync?

Yeah, I could almost buy it - but I was really shocked at my reaction to the 'synched' ending.
Obviously that lends no credence whatsoever to you/ general theories/whatever
But it made a HUGE difference to me- and it surprised me.  That's what's important to me.

I would love to sync up 3 large screen tvs and play 8, 17, and 18 at the same time.

This article hits on some interesting points in addition to the syncing about the sex magick and also brings up the way that Diane's face opens up--I'd kinda forgotten about that. It would seem to tie her back to some form of Judy, too, in that scene.

I wondered about that, too.  Haven't had the time to take it anywhere, though.  Maybe some other enterprising soul could take a look.

I bet there are many more things seeded through the series that make more sense in tandem with a scene from another episode.  Maybe even the much criticized Tammy will be seen in a different light.

I have been wondering about those RR cards and their colors as well, especially after seeing how the cards for 17 & 18 compare to each other.

Hi doc,

Four or five parts ago, someone on this forum posted a picture of all of the Rancho Rosa logos shown up to that point.

They were all different.

One thing I don't understand. In the sync people go on about when Sarah smashes the picture and Laura screaming.  Now, the sounds do go together and blend well between the 2 scenes but they aren't the same. In the scene when Sarah is smashing the picture we are hearing the sounds from the pilot of season one when she hears of Laura's death over the phone. But in episode 18 the sound Laura hears is actually the sounds from her mother calling up to her room in the pilot. So not the same. Is that right?

About the Sync theory...

If Parts 17 and 18 were not synced then the silences in one that correspond to conversation in the other is an incredible coincidence.  =:-O

I just watched the one Lynn posted, and unless whoever produced that video deliberately turned down the sound in one while emphasizing dialogue in the other (and I know there was some of that), the match-up makes me suspect deliberate timing.

There has been talk here of syncing up other episodes, and I'm pretty most of them won't work.  I'll bet characters will be talking over each other all of the time.  Of course, Part 8 will be the exception to this rule, because of the dearth of dialogue for most of it.

Probably only Lynch would know for sure, and he'll most likely never say one way or the other. Darn it.

I admit, up front, the syncing is not perfect,  But it's damn good.  😉

P. S.  And that doesn't even mention the thematic parallels.  😉

The editing is synchronized (definition: occur at the same time or rate) between certain scenes in 17 and 18.  The "sync people" aren't claiming that the exact images or sounds are presented - at least I'm not. Instead, they are suggesting that the editing of the two episodes seems to have been done to have complementary images/sounds/dialogue/moods between the two episodes.

Personally, I believe the only editing that is actually synched occurs from the 52:30-ish mark on.  This was presented in another thread and copied below:

52:33 The cut to the Palmer living room (17) is in synch with the house door being closed (18).

53:47 Sarah Palmer enters the screen (17) in synch with Cooper's movement forward (18).

54:28 Laura's scream (18) is in synch with the cut to black after Sarah smashes the photo (17).

54:34 The cut to black after Laura's scream (18) is in synch with the start of the scene with Cooper and Laura in the woods (17).

55:11 - no apparent synch with start of Laura whispering to Cooper.  However, the scream heard in episode 17 is identical to the scream heard earlier in the series after Laura whispers and is drawn out of the red room.

54:52 - The fade in of the drapes and music (17) is in synch with the fade out of the credits (18)
