I love the fact that Mike and Cooper have been working and planning in the years previous to his "release".
I think that the real Cooper will actually go back to Janey-E and Sonny Jim, while the new Tulpa will be used somehow to send Mr. C back in. Clearly using the ring, as Mike wants Bob back in.
Which also makes me think that Mike has been pretending to be Jeffries, so he is behind the phone call to Mr. C in episode 2 (Soon I will be with Bob again), behind Ray and Daria (Ray was carrying the ring and had to kill Mr. C, and the ring ensures that the dead person goes back to the Lodge). Now Mike gives the ring to the Good Cooper so that he can kill Mr. C and send Bob back to the Lodge.

That could end up being the cliffhanger: which Cooper went back to Vegas?
So you think Cooper left the ring behind for Dougie?
To me, one of the problems with the above cliffhanger: Cooper is supposed to confront his shadow self with perfect courage in order to ascend to the White Lodge. If Mr C isn't killed and ends up killing Cooper he will be nonexistent; his soul will be "utterly annihilated" (per Hawk. I imagine the same applies to Mr C which may cause a "wipe" and then "reboot" of what happened - the history - of the last 25 years). However, things may have changed since Mike stated, "Now one of you must die." The death or annhilation of Mr C may have to occur in the Red Room or Black Lodge. All that said, I wonder how a tulpa can confront Cooper's shadow self for him let alone kill him? I do like the idea of using subterfuge to defeat Mr C though and think your overall theory has some merit.
Personally, I think Cooper has a greater purpose and will likely ascend to the White Lodge in some role (continuing to battle garmonbozia fiends). Not certain if Sam is correct and he'll replace (the) Fireman or become (a) Firman but love the idea (!).
I agree re: Mike influencing events and possibly pretending to be Jeffries to get Bob back into the Lodge.
I had the same thought about Cooper becoming the Fireman. In the early scene, it almost sounded like the Fireman was priming Cooper for the role. Perhaps one of many tutorials.
He can't go back to Janey-E and Soney Jim because with his consciousness restored, he would be living a lie. Janey was quick to believe that he wasn't Dougie when Cooper told her, (sort of told her ) because on some unconscious level she always knew this. I worry more about how she will react to whatever "Dougie" returns to her. Can she forget what she now knows? I imagine some lodge magic will take care of the Jones family.
I'm leaning towards this as well. Maybe the final shot will be Julee Cruise singing in the Roadhouse while Cooper and Laura watch over as the new guardians of the White Lodge.
double post
At least Janey-E has $400K to take care of things for a while.
There is the possibility that Cooper make a tulpa to throw into the battle against Mr. C, knowing that Mr. C, may destroy it. Cooper then destroys Mr. C. Cooper then returns to Janey-E and family.
That's a yrev very clever idea. Dagnabbit! Wish I'd thunk of it!
I have been thinking that we may see Cooper go back to Janey E and Sonny Jim, but we will not know if it is Agent Cooper or Tulpa Cooper.

And a nice new car.

I have no confidence that we will see Dale go back to be with Janey-E and Sonny-Jim. It's not like him to want to live a lie. The new manufactured Coop that Mike will be making is certainly to end up with Janey-E... with the goodness qualities of Dale. Having said this, it also wouldn't surprise me to see Dale use this new manufactured Coop to fool and send Evil Coop back to Lodge. And maybe Dale will end up with the real Diane since we found out that she really did love him before Evil Coop hurt her. I think we will see a HUGE reunion of characters back in Twin Peaks....

And that huge flower arrangement that the Mitchum's brought to the hospital.
I assumed he wants to make another Dougie duplicate because, as much as likes (perhaps even loves) his Las Vegas family, they aren't really his.
Yup. That's why I think he cried over Sonny Jim in the early Dougie episode--he loves the boy and wants him to have his own real father, who was Dougie (but with a working brain), not Cooper in Dougie's body.
Also I think he loves Janey-E and Sonny with universal love, not familial love. That's not to say on some basic level he didn't enjoy sex with Janey as Dougie--but he would have not initiated it as Cooper. He actually thinks that she deserves her own man, someone closer to her own level of development. Cooper is on his way to the White Lodge.
The reason I absolutely LOVE this show is because there are so many possible outcomes. It is so well written. Just a master class in creativity.

Coop doesn't lie to people he cares about. For all we know, he doesn't lie at all.
"We're a family"
"I'm your dad, I love you... I love you both".
Seems straightforward to me. If he has a chance of going back to 'em he will. But, I don't think he has a chance, hence the duplicate/tulpa he asked Mike to create. He made it clear he would be back, which technically could be a lie but since the tulpa will have all his memories and good nature, up to the hospital, it's close enough to the truth.
