Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
We know that both Dougie and Diane were "manufactured" thanks to Phillip Gerard. Dougie was wearing the owl cave ring and I at first assumed it was necessary for his existence but now we know Diane was not real and she did not have a ring. Thinking that maybe the ring just pulls you back to the lodge after death as with Ray and seemingly Dougie doesn't work since Diane goes flying off to the lodge without one anyway. Cooper asks Phillip to make another Dougie but is given the ring. What is the significance of the ring in this situation? Was the ring on Dougie only to acquire garmonbozia? Can a tulpa even have garmonbozia? Am I thinking too hard on this one?
We don't know that Dougie was created by Mike.
Mike looked surprised to see Dougie - if I recall, he said "it seems you were manufactured for a purpose."
I think Mike gave Cooper the ring because Mr C is a Doppelganger, and has BOB influence - and perhaps he can only be truly "removed" if he's wearing the ring.
Of course, I have no idea really 😀
I'm with Mynok. I think Mr C needs to be wearing the ring for whatever reason. Thus why Ray was instructed to put the ring on Mr. C when Ray killed him.
I'm wondering if the reason Dougie was originally wearing the ring was to create a confusion or distraction when the time came for the "change over" to happen.
The ring on Dougie could have all been part of Evil Coops master plan. When Coop lands there he is immediately killed by the hit men and the ring takes him back to the lodge.
I'm hopeful that when Cooper meets up with Cole or the Bookhouse boys, Cooper can provide a bit of exposition on the ring. I'm guessing he understands it's workings, having spent time in the lodge.
Cooper already knew that Mike possessed the ability to create Tulpas, therefore it stands to reason there's a lot more he knows.

But Dougie Coop wasn't wearing the ring only Dougie was. I guess that's my biggest question: why did Dougie have the ring to begin with since he was created by Mr C yet the ring seems like it will lead to his demise. I do think it's safe to assume that we need the ring on Mr C to pull him back to the lodge.

I didn't mean to imply Gerard created Dougie, just that he was the one who mentioned manufacturing and has the gold "seeds". This ring has always been so problematic! It would be nice to have a bit more insight finally.

Ah I see.
Mr C was scheduled to return at a certain time. Perhaps the ring kind of triangulates their position if they're still alive, in order to force them back? That may explain why Dougie was brought back to the lodge and not Mr C - it took the wearer of the ring (trying to avoid the word bearer!) to the lodge. And the wrong person (Dougie) was wearing it.
When the young boy was run down by Richard, we saw his soul fly away upwards. Presumably, his soul did not go to the waiting room.
However, Ray's body was sent straight there. I wonder if his soul has been captured by the ring?
I do wonder if Frost/Lynch fully understood the ring during the original series and FWWM. If not, they've had to cobble its purpose together for this series which must have been difficult.
I'm looking forward to some answers, but not 100% confident we'll get them 🙂
I think that's the best guess. That Mr C put the ring on Dougie so that at 2:53 he was pulled back to the lodge instead of him. But that's also pretty easy to just not wear a ring and preserve your existence!
I do wonder about the ring backstory as well. Did they have any idea what it really meant? The ring has definitely taken on a life of its own. I love the mystery of it but there are seemingly conflicting scenes involving the ring.
