Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
So maybe Justin Theroux will play Billy as he did in INLAND EMPIRE 🙂
Is he even in the Return?
He wasn't listed in the cast. But I'd welcome a Roadhouse fight scene between him and Billy Ray Cyrus.
LOL!
I don't think Diane is Naido. First, she is in a cell not an office.
Just for clarity: Diane was speaking about "sheriff's station", not "office", so at least here the Diane/Naido theory checks out.
But seriously, in that case, Naido would have been played by a disguised Laura Dern, and not by Yuki Nae.
You probably forgot that Tojamura, a purported Japanese businessman in Season 2 was in fact played by Piper Laurie (disguised as Fumio Yamaguchi). DKL may like these Asian-European switches. 😉
Well, at the Morgue, Laura Dern did sit like a man.

Or possibly the sheriffs station means where the sheriffs and his deputies are "Stationed"--in the woods on that second day in October. Maybe next time Andy will return with several lost souls, like real Diane, Audrey, Chet etc.
Only in my dreams ?
Why must there be a real Diane? A Tulpa is not necessarily a creation based or copied from another. A Tulpa can be a person, or an animal, a landscape, an object, or a nonhuman entity .... whatever the creator wants to "imagine".
Of course ... I'm not sure of anything ... but "a real Diane" it's not the only option
Maybe in Tibet, but in the case of Twin Peaks, it is pretty much always copied from another person.
What I wonder is why what they used to call Doppelgangers they now call Tulpas.
The real Diane is Janey-E. With the fore-mentioned missing "E" with Naido being spelled backwards. Plus, in Mulholland Drive, Naomi Watts plays both Betty AND Diane. And... Naomi Watts and Laura Dern went together to Lynch's house years ago to try to get him to make films again.
Having said that, we don't know exactly what Diane looks like. Maybe she resembles both Laura Dern and Naomi Watts. I believe it's been a very long time since Cole would have seen her.
I don't think Naido is Diane... but maybe another "manufactured" thingy.
I'm now discarding this theory as I had forgotten that Coop had scenes with Janey-E after he woke up. I think he would have known the real Diane. Oh well...
On a side note, I'm thinking that the not-real Diane that we have been seeing is not a "tulpa" but rather manufactured by Evil Coop just like he manufactured Dougie.
But aren't manufactured people and Tulpas the same concept?

I think they are different concepts ... look at the recent thread on this question that might help.
But their fate is similar, if you look at Diane and the real Dougie (although it should have been Mr C.), they both end up in the chair in the Red Room and vanish to be replaced by what Cooper calls a "seed" (Golden ball).
Based off the information we get from the series, tulpas can look like anything whomever created them wants them to look like, provided the seed and strand of hair (appearance from hair, presumably) while doppelgängers must look like their other. In season two Piper, who played Catherine, was disguised as a Japanese business man to the point of being listed as a Japanese man in the cast roll at the end of each episode that character was in until the one she was revealed in. We already know, via jefferies, that appearances can change within the lodge, perhaps both lodges, making the leap from Diane to Naido not too far fetched. It is possible that Diane is alive and well, her tulpa being created from a strand of hair taken the night she was raped by Mr.C, she doesn't have to be dead for a Tulpa to be created in her image.
There's no such information in the series, name me one Tulpa who is not copied on someone?
Tojamura is a very bad example, it was a disguise, nothing to do with any spiritual system of belief, (talk about stating the obvious)
Jeffries has evolved, the way the arm has, different story. Was the tin machine Jeffries anyway?
There is nothing in the show that could make Naido and Diane the same person except the "I'm at the Sheriff station" line from Diane, which I find a bit too obvious anyway.

Interesting idea. I think I've been thinking there has to be a "real Diane" because Cooper, Cole, and Albert knew her back in the day.
However, if one or more of them is manufactured…
...and down another rabbit hole we go ?⚫️
The interesting thing is that in the Missing Pieces, when Cooper talks to Diane, we don't see her, we don't even hear her, maybe there has never been one in the first place.
