I am hoping that the real Diane is Naido, since Diane said I am at the sheriff's station right before she went to pull out her gun.

"I'm in the sheriff's station ... I'm not me."

The Naido connection seems very easy to make indeed!

Annie has ANI (but no D).

I am not convinced we have seen The Dutchman's yet. Could have been where Jeffries was, could be where Richard imploded, could be where the remaining coordinates lead.

Wasn't the Dutchman's the place were Jeffries was supposed to be? I think the Dutchman's is either the motel where Mr. C found Teapot Jeffries or the entire Woodsmen headquarters (Convenience Store, dirty bearded men room and motel).

Carel Struycken is Dutch, so it could be The Fireman's place.

The Convenience store appears and reappears just like the ghostly Flying Dutchman ship.

I am actually ecstatic about the Diane/Naido connection.  It makes their meeting in the mauve room so much better.  The way she reacts when she feels his face, the way she stops his from leaving the wrong way and sacrifices herself to make sure he gets out safely (more or less.)  I mean, THAT is the Diane we were waiting for.  I don't care if she's got white hair or no eyes.

Plus we have no idea what's under all that extra skin that's keeping her blind.  With the crazy face cracking, head popping nuttiness that we've seen so far do you really think they couldn't find a way to change one into the other?

Yes - you've just described a perfectly sensible link!

I just re-watched this scene from episode three and her demeanor totally changes when Cooper speaks for the first time and asks "where are we?"  It's like she recognizes his voice.  She grabbed his hands and gets him seated and starts feeling his face, gets excited/agitated and then begins to try to talk.

And who would know Coopers voice better than DIANE!

*ugly crying*

...and. Who would be more likely to sacrifice herself the way Naido did for Dale than his faithful Diane!

How can you tell Naido is an Asian woman?  Because her name is Naido?

Diane  =   O d i a n (e)

She has no eyes or power of speech.  This would be a great way to hide the real Diane.  By the way none of this was my idea.  You can read the original ideas in the other thread below.

Reddit pointed out

L-INDA

DIAN-e

NAID-o

all share the same 4 letters

hmmmmmmmm

Throw Candi in and the letters that don't match spell COLE. ?

Except Candie has an E at the end .... but I like the way you think!!!!

How can Naido be Diane? Cole and Albert did knew Diane before they found her. The would'nt recognized her if she was Asian. Right?

This Naido/Diane thing is awesome. I mean, people put forth so many random, out of nowhere ridiculous theories (i.e. Candie is Linda, Jerry's foot is DoppelDougie) related to mixed/substitute identities on this forum that you start to get kind of jaded to it. Then we find out that we just hadn't landed on the right crackpot theory. Like, a week ago, if someone had suggested that Diane and Naido were the same person I would have rolled my eyes, now it seems super plausible.

So Diane tells it ALL and then forces them to kill her.

But she's been such a real character until now. My favourite character from the Return in fact. Her emotions, memories, inner conflicts etc have been played for real for 16 hours. I can't accept that suddenly she's just fake!

Her style of robe ( Brits call it a dressing gown ) does not mean her entire aesthetic is Asian.

Well there is more to it than that. The shirt she's wearing in episode 16 is just one other example. But I didn't write the clickbait article claiming as such.

I do think her aesthetic borrows a lot from Asian culture though. My opinion and I'm allowed to have it. Clearly I'm not the only one who noticed, either. Have fun getting self-righteous with strangers on internet discussion boards!
