Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
Wouldn't be the first American - or Brit, before you get annoyed - who can't pronounce words properly.
FWIW, I think he's deaf but I'm halfway to believing the hearing aid is not what it seems.
I tend to think it is GORDON who is not what he seems (though I do not think, having Dale back) that he will be the key, as some have speculated.
Given his thing for electricity, it is sginificant that he is "plugged in" though.
And, y'all named the language, y'all get to decide proper pronunciation. And no, I am not a (American) southerner (heaven forfend) - I just think having a 2nd person plural pronoun is quite convenient.
Yeah, I think he's using the device to listen to the Lodges or listen in on other dimesnsions or however you want to put it. The device is for extra-sensorial use, not to aid the function of his inner or middle ear, IMO.
Yes, he listen a lot of stuffs. I remember he noticed a few times when Diane was at the door of his room , even if she did not knocked at it !
I thought the same, he could hear Diane's footsteps clearly, but he didn't seem annoyed after the three shots in the same room.

Interesting point ! Maybe he was expecting that ! All episode he was thinking of something wrong and while Diane was there, his eyes was on her purse most of the time, check !
Maybe he was in the "gotta light" town as a kid. I said when episode 8 aired that the girl looked like a young Madchen Amick so maybe why he can hear Shelly is that she is a descendant.
In S1, when SA Cooper takes his very first speakerphone call from Cole, there is no shouting, no mention of hearing aids, deafness, etc. It's not an issue in that conversation.
The second phone call is when the subject is highlighted as an issue. That is all, thank you
OH, BUCKHORN!
The thought that Cole's hearing aid may be something more than what it looks crossed my mind, too, but I don't think the attention it was given in the series necessarily suggests a secret weapon.
I think it could just point out how Cole is there to hear - be open, intercept signals, detect cues, and find intelligible meaning. In other words, to do detective work. Like Cooper's, his mind is naturally inquisitive, and the tasks he faces challenge even average human perception as well as rationality: he is equipped to sense hidden signals, in more than one way.

Fair point but, consider our place is tiny and we can't even agree on how to pronounce things from one end to the other. Not much hope for anyone else, is there?
Still, I guess it's easier for you lot, only having a handful of accents, as opposed to our thousands. 😉
I think he's hard of hearing, but not completely deaf. And there is definitely something more happening with his hearing device.
I have a student who needs special hearing technology, and I saw his audiology profile. Some sounds are within his range, and some are not. I never thought about it that way. Every profile is unique, sp Cole might hear some sounds better than others. This boy has an amplifier device that I wear so that he hears me more than background noise. Must remember to turn off unit when muttering to self...
I have otosclerosis, so understand this. After returning home from my first stapedechtomy, I was watching a movie with my wife at the time and asked her, "what is that buzzing noise?" She replied, "The refrigerator." Ha! I'd never heard it before. My hearing is still not up to normal standards (still have to watch movies and such with captions) but it's definitely improved.
That device would've been great for me prior to having surgery.
Back on topic: I suppose the device could have a dual function, but wonder why he can hear Shelley's voice so crystal clear? And why does Albert still seem sceptical after all these years?

I never used this device before. It is such a great idea because the hearing aid just makes everything louder. This device allows the listener to focus on the person who is wearing the amplifier unit.
I think Albert just gets frustrated with Gordon from time to time. Gordon is the boss - Go see Diane in the pouring rain, while I stay dry at home drinking bordeaux. Stand there and wait for me while I stare at a buxom French woman. etc. Albert is a smart alec at heart, so he wises off to Gordon every now & then. Maybe he's aware that Cole's hearing device has other capabilities too, so he may be curious what that's all about.
Aye, I agree with Buttercup's assessment. Albert likes to push his luck as much as he can, and knows that Cole also pushes his luck now and again.

True. I was thinking more about outside of the prison but you've put it in a larger context. He's probably sick of all the shouting, too.
Re: Device - So, Shelly has an amplifier, and Gordon has planted amplifiers at various places around the globe, on satellites and in other dimensions. Makes sense now!

And also is an mp3 player, listening a lot of good music 🙂
