He cheated on his wife, he had a gambling problem, etc. I think Cooper wants Mike to make a seed out of himself so that the doppelganger will take on the real Cooper's characteristics, making him virtuous and altruistic in nature. This doppelganger, I believe, will be sent to live with Janey E and Sonny Jim.

I am hoping this is right. Cooper talked of "The seed." Now we see that he learned all about these lodge practices which we have struggled to understand. He also appeared to have authority over Mike. I believe we are going to get a lot of other answers because Coop knows them all.
Maybe Agent Cooper can use the 'seed' from Diane to return old Dougie for Janey E and Sonny Jim? But would this be the same old Dougie from when before Agent Cooper took over his body?
Also, that ring is probably to be used to put on Mr. C after he is killed by Agent Cooper, to change hands of leadership/world and trap Mr. C back in the red room/lodge. And it looks like that dance jolted something inside of Audrey, and she may be making a return of herself, surprised at her reflection when she tried to return 'home'. Maybe Mr. C is coming to get her in his search for 'Judy'....showdown with Agent Cooper over this?
