Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
Ok first off..who the heck knows whats going to go down on Sunday but I can't get this out of my head. Full disclosure: I loved Sunset Boulevard since I was little...so I'm probably reading too much into it.
Lynch keeps giving nods to his favorite films & I can't stop thinking that Audrey's like Norma Desmond stuck in a past reality of her beauty & youth. Thinking Lynch planned it this way as an ode to one of his favorite films. She's stuck in a mental state, frozen in time(hospitalized) or in a coma unable to free herself. I'm wondering that when Mr. C raped Diane & Audrey that he planted a code word like ":) ALL" to set them off to kill their target ala Manchurian Candidate.
I have a feeling Audrey's going to wake up, get a code a word or trigger & end up killing good Coop like how Norma Desmond killed her lover at the end of the movie..although I don't think Coop will wind up in a pool like William Holden 🙂
also an interestingly odd note - Norma Desmond had a pet monkey in the film that also came w/ some heavy symbolism.
just a theory!! can't wait till Sunday.
hey, don't forget who wears the queen of diamonds outfit at one-eyed jacks in the original series!
YES!!! There are too many things here on Sunset Boulevard to ignore. Gloria Swanson lost the academy award for her role as Norma Desmond to JUDY Holiday.
I think Laura is Judy. Audrey always said she had a love/hate relationship w/Laura.
In Sunset Boulevard, it starts out with her pet monkeys death & the elaborate funeral she gave it. In Fire Walk with Me the Monkey says Judy.
Like a queen bee competition thing. Audrey became the Queen after Laura died but still was always living in her shadow.
Perhaps..who knows until Sunday maybe 🙂

Audrey's problem with Laura was because of her father.
If you noticed, it was Laura's photo that sat on his desk, not hers.
He also gave Audrey's pony to Laura via Leland.
She didn't really hate Laura but she didn't understand then why her father liked her more.

I don't know how much he's borrowing from SB with Audrey's storyline, but I agree there's some commentary going on about time and age and acceptance. That's been a thread throughout the season, but I think it's typified in Audrey, who seemed surprised less by her shifting environment and more by her appearance. It's important that we see her looking in a mirror, and not simply in a white space looking surprised.
I would hope that Lynch doesn't end his masterpiece by borrowing a conclusion. Referencing other films isn't the same as copying them.

Judy Holiday's character in "Born Yesterday" was also named Billie!
These are all great observations!
Very interesting 🙂
How mindbending would the ending be if, after we see Audrey gun down the "good" Coop, and then turn into a tree, we end the series with a shot of the new Dougie Jones walking through the big red door, greeting Janey E and Sonny Jim, who promptly tell him they are yrev glad to see him again?
I agree about her father but in the eyes of a teenager it's all jealousy & competition with another girl.
@chris gorgon totally agree. audreys theme of age, beauty & acceptance
@kdawg68 it would be amazing & Audrey turning into a tree would be fitting ala the greek myth of Apollo & Daphne. I'm digging it.
Yes... I also think that Audrey is linked to Norma Desmond in many ways.... there's too much to just be a coincidence. In addition to what's said before, Norma has been holed up in her mansion for years, totally forgotten by the public as she used to be a star. Maybe Audrey has been isolated for a long time as well... forgotten by her friends in Twin Peaks. Norma in the end says " I'm ready for my close-up"... Audrey's last scene is her close-up in the mirror. Plus, Norma has written a script for a film about Salome. And of course in a film version of Salome there is the famous Dance of the Seven Veils.... and Audrey has her dance.
Yes! Thanks @Mike Harris....you're genius! I didn't even make the dance connection. Spot on.
Its similar too as Audrey's scenes this season are in place thats stuck in late 1940s-1950's interiors. Audrey's (season 1 & 2) & Twin Peaks had the vibe of that era, clothes etc.
Normas home was also frozen in time when she was a silent era star.
I can't wait for Sunday.
Yeah... it's like those scenes with Audrey and Charlie could have taken place in Norma Desmond's mansion.
