It seems to me that Lynch and Frost have paired off Cooper and Audrey with some broad commonalities, giving them circumstances to deal with that could be seen as similar. Cooper is trying to re-learn how to function in the surface world, trapped in an infantile state as Dougie's stand-in (his replacement's replacement's replacement). Audrey has been trying with great effort to get out into the world, but is somehow never able (reminiscent of Luis Bunuel's film The Exterminating Angel). Cooper has a "wife" and "son", Audrey has a husband and son - both spouses acting dominantly as their handlers. Seems like Cooper and Audrey are being presented as a complimentary pair, and I think it's a good bet they will end up together by the end of the series..
Thoughts?
That's interesting regarding The Exterminating Angel. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of DL's favorites.
