Didn't BOB put Josie's soul in the door knob? You see him laughing maniacally just after she dies after he feeds on his fear.
In my opinion, for Audrey to have been put inside the wood, BOB of some other spirit would have to have done it.
To me, Charlie is playing the role of some kind of gentle guide, trying to help her but waiting for her to find her own resolution.
Yes, it appeared that Bob sent Josie to the drawer knob. So the analogous situation would be that Bob (hosted by Bad Coop) killed Audrey at the Roadhouse table and parked her spirit there.
I thought Bob had to have a host to act in our world. But it seems like he just showed up to kill Josie and Thomas, while Agent Cooper witnessed it. Who was Bob's host toward the end of S2? Before Bad Coop becomes host?
If it were known that Bad Coop killed Audrey, there would be no mystery about "Cooper's " disappearance. There would be a big manhunt after him. So that can't be the answer. A Roadhouse murder would have witnesses.
Frank Truman knows what happened to Audrey. After Doc Hayward mentions her, he goes quiet and changes the subject to upbeat fishing topic. Frank maintains a respectful silence when Ben talks about Richard's lack of a father. There is always much unsaid in these scenes.
He shows up a few times in season 2 without a host.
I think he needs a host though to experience human senses or to interact physically with things.
Maybe he was able to put Josie in the door knob because she was already dead - she died of a broken heart didn't she? But then BOB moves her soul into the door knob).
That makes sense-- Bob has the fury of his own momentum and doesn't need a host for everything. Still it seems Audrey would have to have died at the Roadhouse for Bob to trap her spirit in the wooden booth somewhere.
My favorite answer to this is that the wood trap theory is wrong and will be dismissed in the final parts. Problem is that it is a well-thought out theory with significant evidence. As the poster FWWM explained earlier, Lynch authored the Josie wood trap scene in S2, and it is reasonable to believe that he would take this theme further in S3.

If Lynch is bonkers enough to come up with the door knob scene, then he's bonkers enough to imagine any other scenario which we couldn't possibly guess correctly 😀
My money's on Audrey being neither in a coma nor trapped in wood. Either something straightforward, or so completely bizzare as to be unguessable.
Agreed. I didn't want to insert all the quotes from above because I think they're all excellent thoughts. It would be nice to get some movement on the Audrey plot in EP16 - like her leaving the house. Any of the scenarios mentioned above are plausible. I'd like to think that she and Agent Cooper will both be revealed to the real world in this next episode.
I have this feeling that where this Audrey storyline is going .. that I'm going to be very upset with the outcome of Audrey's storyline .. in other news I'm still awaiting my Audrey Horne pop funko doll.. what the hell is taking so long I ordered it like 2 1/2 weeks ago

I agree that Audrey's plot line isn't what I would have expected. SPeaking of your Audrey Funko, maybe it is stuck in a box waiting to go out the door to the Roadhouse.
Here's another theory.
DoppleCoop is a planner. He somehow created Dougie to keep Cooper trapped in the Black Lodge. It makes sense that he would have a plan for Cooper if he makes it back in the real world.
So, Audrey is DougieCoop's hostage in some strange hallucinatory or interdimensional prison. When Cooper reappears, he'll be faced with Audrey being held hostage.
I strongly believe Charlie is DoppleCoop's partner seen in the picture of the glass box. Charlie helps create the "story" that Audrey experiences in this prison - maybe there have been hundreds of stories over the past many years.
Just looked at the photo of Mr C and associate by the glass box and it does look like Charlie!
No it doesn't. It looks like a middle aged bald guy but not Charlie specifically.
While I'm pretty sure Cooper will wake up in part 16 or later, I'm much more sceptic about Audrey's return in real world. It may happen if she and Dale Cooper eventually reunite, but this will probably mean that Janey-e and Sonny Jim would be killed or something similar and the idea makes me uneasy.

Lmfao buttercup! That's awesome ?? ???
Another theory to file in the category of "why not?"
Let's suppose for a moment that Audrey recovered, is alive and relatively well, and has pursued a career in acting. Could this be her scene in a film noir movie?
Given that DL is such a fan of Billy Wilder, perhaps this drama between Charlie and Audrey is just... Drama? Shades of Norma Desmond?
No farther flung than being trapped in the wood at the Great Northern, imo. We'll soon see.
