Is confirmed. It's Sarah Palmer all along. WOW!!
How is this confirmed?
I thought that Sarah could have eaten the frogmoth, but it could also be that Sarah has Bob in her. Whatever it was, it was unexpected and creepy.
It seems clear to me now:
Assuming both Sarah and Leland Palmer are BOB-possessed, then their off-spring Laura is destined to be a vessel for the Mother of all Evil. I guess that's what was supposed to happen to her had Laura chose to remove the owl cave ring when Leland/BOB told her to do so in FWWM.
However, Laura chose to wear the ring and was killed by Leland/BOB. Her spirit went to the Black Lodge and then is resent by The Giant/?????? to earth to fight BOB and prevent him from unleashing The Mother of all Evil that was seen in the S3E1 and S3E8.
I assume Coop is sent back by Mike to accompany Laura and ensure that her mission is successful and that she's not being killed by BOB again.
The question is: Where is Laura now? Does she rest within Candie in Vegas? Or Becky in Twin Peaks? Or in someone else?
And where is the owl cave ring? Who has it now?
I guess we'll have to stay tuned.

That does not confirm it. As people said when that ep. aired, her age doesn't match what the girl's would be

Bob did NOT tell her to wear the ring. Mike tossed it to her and she put it on, it stopped Bob being able to be inside her & use her like he did Leland. She knew the cost of not letting Bob use her that way, Bob had told her before.
The ring Mr. C. put on Ray, and it got sent to the Black Lodge when he died.
I thought there was something in the Secret History about Sarah having been from Twin Peaks while Leland was from the East Coast. I think it's possible the bug-girl is the less relevant character there and that it's the young man who grows up to be Gordon Cole. Driven to figure out these mysteries after seeing the havoc wreaked on a young woman he loved.

That is the best and most sensible theory I have read so far! Love it.

Yup. I think the young man is Gordon too.
I still maintain the bug girl is young Sarah though. She might be in NM when her family was vacationing and Gordon was her boyfriend that fateful summer.

Gordon Cole is not Hispanic.

Did I miss this revelation? I assumed that scene meant something or someone has replaced "regular" Sarah Palmer and real Sarah Palmer is trapped in her living room in a time loop
This could be actually something!
As stated, there's nothing to say Sarah hosts the froggy thing. Something, yes, but not the froggy.
Hell of a scene. For the first time in a long time, something on screen made me jump.
I wonder if Sarah was the reason Leland ended up with Bob in the first place. Perhaps she'd been hosting that thing all her life, and arranged for Leland to be molested and then possessed. Perhaps that's why he kept her medicated, in a failed attempt to keep the malignant influence at bay.
It would make sense, because Leland has always been portrayed as a victim of circumstance, who genuinely suffered because of the things Bob made him do. If Sarah was pulling the strings all along, and Bob was in the driving seat - in Leland, that is - what else could he do?
I don't think we got any confirmation, to be honest. But if she's actually the young girl in 1956 (which is possible in my opinion, although the timeline doesn't match perfectly), I don't think she's possessed by Bob. The experiment throws up Bob's orb, but along with it there are lots of other things, many shaped like eggs and we saw the moth-frog thing coming out of an egg. My idea is that the experiment released part of herself or of her spirit if you will with those eggs and those who eat the creature(s) that come out of them are inhabited/become hosts (by the way, a guy here edited the video to remove the credits and rotate the image of the girl after the bug entered in her mouth to better highlight the change in her facial expression).
And when Sarah removed her face, she seemed to have something reminiscent of the experiment inside her. So if that's really Sarah Palmer I think she has part of the experiment/mother inside her more than Bob. Now, personally I think it would be kinda strange if Sarah has had that thing inside her for so much and it has been asleep/inactive for at least 35 years (I'm using the events of season 1&2 as a reference here, because we don't know if she had already shown signs of possessions after that, before the events of season 3). I believe the purpose of the scene was more about what happened than about to whom it happened, with the girl in 1956 being there just to show that at that time the world was infested by the evil spread by the experiment and it has infected other people since then (Sarah being one of them, possibly a recent addition) and not necessarily being a relevant character.
Or things are chaotic and these things feed and are jumping around, with only a few plans that ravel and unravel as they try to feed and be physical. Some get stuck in some people others don't. The lodge doesn't have to make sense, it could just be spilling out in our world and we are seeing the edges of that. No controlled plot but the attack vector of a disease. The things don't need to link other than they are the same species. The source of the outbreaks are portals, and some of the infected.
Using disease dynamics to explain the apparent logic of it without giving it a will to control that.
I agree that whatever is in Sarah is not necessarily the frog-moth, though it might be.
I wonder to what extent Sarah is cognizant of what's inside her. At certain moments she seems like the Sarah we already know, and then at others she seems to be aware she's hosting some kinda big nasty.
The display of the warped left ring finger was surely relevant. It looked demonic. Supposedly that's the 'spirit finger.' And it is always the finger used for the Lodge Ring.
I also suspect that the real Sarah is generally unaware of the evil inside, though she probably suspects something isn't right. Bob kept things from Leland, and Sarah seems the same. She seemed like a normal person when she first ordered her drink, even thanking the bartender when he handed it to her.
I thought that too.... that Sarah has a doppelgänger living with her... hence the clanking bottles in the kitchen when Hawk visited. Sarah said there was 'something in the kitchen', not someone.
