So now we find out that the high pitched tone is coming from a room in the furnace area under the hotel? What could this signify? James was about to stumble upon it and the scene ended. What is that about? Any ideas?
I don't think it's a coincident that 'the giant' is revealed as the Fireman in the same episode that James enters the furnace room.

I haven't got a clue, but will throw something out there. As other posters have said, there seems to be a team coming together to fight off the evil that is already in and coming to Twin Peaks. We've got the super-punch-glove-guy, the pure of heart Andy and Lucy, the wise Hawk, our supernaturally-tuned-in Blue Rose Task Force, the potential restoration of the Bookhouse Boys, the Las Vegas muscle, etc.
What is missing? An infinity stone-like superweapon - one that serves a narrow, specific purpose. So, my guess is that the hum is being caused by a device/weapon of sorts. It makes sense for James to find and wield this device - well, as much sense as anyone.
That's my random guess. I hope it's wrong because I don't like it. I'm fairly sure I don't like super-punch-glove-guy either, but time will tell.
I just have a weird feeling that James will find Laura there.
I think Freddie Sykes (Green glove) could take Mr C in arm wrestling. He'd crush his hand.
What Tom Gordon said. My first instinct was to ponder if the green glove signified "the arm," but the evil arm (that MIKE cut off and which dissolved from Dougie) is on the left. For this reason, I was struck that the arm wrestling last week was right handed.
Now it makes sense: righthanded super green glove for righthanded arm wrestling. (And none of my guesses have been right so far. Though I've been betting on the Bookhouse Boys going to Jackrabbits Palace since we learned about it. I hope I'm right on that one!)
MAybe James will find some humming shoes fit for a Cooper?
Don't forget that sound is a weapon for good in Dune.
Defo secrets to be revealed. Recurring theme of darkness lying underneath the surface in Lynch's work and of people going to the underworld/subconscious to uncover knowledge or info. Underworld could be symbolised by basement so definitely something to be revealed perhaps about James himself. The sound is beautiful so maybe something Laura related or hopeful at least. I think Fire can be both destructive but also life giving so hoping its like a Phoenix rebirth life giving situation and not burning embers of death. Lol
