his dad kept the secret of the portal to another realm near Jack Rabbit's Palace, though he had taken Bobby there as a kid. Even as Bobby got closer to adulthood, he'd just tell him when he asked about his work,"that's classified." That's dedication.

Yes. But I wonder how much of this Major Briggs always remembered. He clearly had periods where his memory was shaky (we have speculated the portals can have that effect).
Do you think his camping trip wtih Dale was to Jack Rabbit's Palace? You'd think, since that is where he disappeared from, with no memory of what had happened while he was gone...

Possibly but Coop and Briggs were going night fishing and Jack Rabbit's Palace was said to be in the mountains. Did not seem to have any lake or river in what we saw.
I wish I had an image of the scene but it seemed to me that while the portal was opening up and it showed each of the people looking up at it there was a tree in between Bobby and the camera (as well as between him and the portal). A tree that looked very much like the evolution of the arm. Coincidence? In this show? What if the good lodge entities are keeping Bobby at arm's length, so to speak, for a reason? Dad keeping his boy safe, perhaps.
Didn't they say a few episodes ago, that they would go to Jack Rabbits Palace tomorrow? Days go by in a very strange way in Twin Peaks! ?

No. Why do people keep saying this?
Where is it stated, or even implied that each episode is an entire day? For all we know, each episode may be a collection of things happening at the same time, or within hours, or including flashbacks. The next episode may well be the same day, or at the same time, or a few hours earlier.
18 episodes != 18 days.

That's what I meant. I am not saying that each episode is an entire day. I was just saying that a few episodes ago, they said that they were going to Jack Rabbits Palace and that that happened in episode 14. Things/days/whatever are developing in a strange way. Nothing is what it looks in Twin Peaks.

Yes, by that silver/pool orange thing - you also saw it as the smoke cleared.

There was a scrawny little tree there, like the ones at Glastonbury Grove. There was also, though, a flash of vertical light that reminded me of what we first sawcwhen Sarah opened her face...

Do you remember any water in the scene with Dale and M. Briggs? I don't...

The golden pool, which looks exactly like the "cervix" at the beginning of Eraserhead.

Yeah, there could be a lake or likely a river anywhere around there. Not at all uncommon.

Coop/Briggs night fishing trip was shot in a water-free location (for all we know) in California, at least the footage that made the edit.
But the 4 guys hiking to JRP hiked right by a river (the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River to be precise). Watch again; it's after they leave the vehicle and before they reach the fire service road where Bobby leads them to the tree. Maybe Major Briggs had various fishing holes, or just maybe they fished here?
