i don't think it's fair to accuse someone of being "dressed like freddy krueger" just because their sweater happens to have some red & dark horizontal stripes on it. pair that sweater up with a fedora & a freddy krueger halloween claw hand & then by all means, yes, dressed like freddy krueger.
for the record anyway, freddy k's sweater was def red with army green stripes, not red & black. 😉
I found the Lissie band just didn't fit - so assumed it was some kind of clue that was sailing over my head. Her lip synching was dreadful, so I was hoping that someone had a good idea for what it all meant...
What I think must have been hard choosing the bands is that there are numerous bands who have been influenced by Twin Peaks - but how do you choose bands that have a Twin Peaks-esque vibe that aren't just completely derivative.
I think Chromatics were not a bad choice although I've found most of the choices to be a bit 'what your mum and dad thinks is cool'. blah.
I think Swans would have been a great choice (they even have a song with the sound of wood being sawn up!) I'm still hoping Zola Jesus will make an appearance!
If I was booking bands for The Roadhouse I would have gone for:
Scott Walker / Swans / Zola Jesus / Fever Ray / Effi Briest / Connan Mockasin / Pharmakon / Shannon Funchess
If I could upvote a thousand times for Scott Walker, I would. I confess to never having heard any of the others on your list. I know, sad and inexcusable.
Have thought of someone who captured that retro vibe perfectly, but with a real edge; sadly no longer with us:
Link Wray.
I'd be happy to see Sharon Van Etten again, she's been my favourite so far. Bought all her albums the day after the episode she was on.

Agreed!
Doesn't 'Rumble' feature. somewhere in a Lynch production?

There's a thread in RR Diner about this.
I still think it would have been amazing to have local, PNW, bands featured. The type who might BE from "Twin Peaks" or who might actually stop to play their way to a Montana tour.
I am a big This Mortal Coil, Kate Bush, Juliee Cruise, Cocteau Twins fan and have found the series pointing out new acts for me and I have enjoyed discovering the bands. It all isn't perfect but I do think the Lyrics matter to the episodes. I am enjoying new music and finding it all isn't what I hear on pop radio. I thought this was the most like a bar band which is ok.

Ah, Cocteaus. Bloody superb, they were. Old Squeaky Kate is pretty good, too.
But...
There has to be balance. I couldn't listen to them all day long. I enjoy variety. There's not much in Twin Peaks. I don't mind; what's there seems to fit the overall feel of the show but I could live without most of it.
Contradicting myself about background music, Badalamenti's "Fireman" theme is unbelievably beautiful.
What was David Lynch thinking? Terrible music.
🙂
And where is Julee Cruise?
I guess if she's to make an appearance, they'll save her for the final act in the last episode??
Once she appears and ends the series with the "Twin Peaks" theme, all the complaints about how terrible the closing acts were would be forgotten 🙂
Watching Twin Peaks for the music is like watching an "Adult" movie for the acting.

Though if they can't act sexual excitement it does kind of take you out of the story. 😀
I really liked the music this week myself. The singer felt really out of synch though. Or perhaps just not that good at pretending she was singing live. But the song I liked. =)

Some pretty good choices there! Most people I know have never heard of Connan Mockasin. Great musician. He's probably the reason as to why I didn't hate James' song too -- his vocals are a little bit Connan Mockasin-esque.
If I were to book any bands for the Roadhouse, I would have...
...booked none. Because there still haven't been a performance that I would not rather have replaced for some more meat to the storyline.

They have stories?
