Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
The show will grow in cult status as time goes on. Particularly once the awards come flooding in.
Hipsters will hear about the artfulness of Twin Peaks once it's finished airing and suddenly it'll become the in show.
The show will then explode in popularity as other people hear that it is the greatest show ever, and it'll be made available on other networks. It'll gain a new following amongst a generation who never saw the original.
Then many fans will complain how all these new viewers "weren't there the first time round" and who just don't get it because they didn't have to "wait 25 years".
This is my prediction.
Then again, maybe that's just bollocks.
I don't get this thought its going to rake in awards.
Has kyle been excellent in the night and day roles of mr C and dougie? Sure.
The original won Emmys for costume design and editing.
It did win the globe for kyle and drama series.
I have a hard time buying this gets the same accolades as the first season. It's a reboot at this point, it'll be harder to win imo.
I also think people will hear more of disappoint than "best show ever" (pending a absurdly awesome ending to be fair). The predictions here are quite lofty.
I will never understand how it came to pass that the aspect of the Return that has proven most consistently discussed and debated on this fan forum is.... the decision to do a serial release of weekly episodes and not a single dump of all 18 parts. Or, at least, that has been my observation.
IMO we, collectively, are inhabiting a Kafka/McLuhan/baudrillard/lynch-ish dystopia if what what most enflames our passions is discussing media absent content....
the Return has all but clobbered us over the head with its theme of self-perpetuating cycles of trauma/violence/habit, passivity/anomie, gluttony/greed/excess/impatience against the placid, guileless state of equanimity/nirvana/rebirth embodied in "Dougie," Special Agent Dale Cooper's apotheosis/reincarnation, a foil to the viewer's own anguish at being denied instant gratification, explanation, formal closure, fan service...
... and so we "binge on," ever seeking things more current yet drawn back ceaselessly into nostalgia as an escape from confronting our condition: the ephemerality of our existence.
or, at least that's how I understood Charlie's message to the audience re: "Existentialism 101"
jfwiw, imo, etc.

To say it's unlikely to be Renewed one minute then say "lynch it welcome to do more" the next, is weird.
Makes me wonder if lynch said to showtime "were done", so showtime puts that tease out there to get buzz, knowing there won't be more.

I enjoy the show & that's why I watch it every week. I've felt no need to binge on it or get frustrated by the episodic nature.
I don't want to think about more. I just want to revel in the moment. This is not an all-you-can-eat buffet, it is a gourmet meal, and I just want to taste every bite, and not worry about the next meal.
For my part, I will keep Showtime after the show ends, just to thank them for doing this.
And as far as having to wait each week, it is what DL wants, and I am fine with that. The frustration is part of the seasoning that makes this meal taste so good.
Thank you. My thoughts exactly.
DAMN good meal !
Ditto, I'm thankful for the weekly break. Gives me time to read all the theories and consider / discuss what's happened.

Hi Yam,
As mentioned before, Mark Frost's postmortem is entitled:
Twin Peaks: The FINAL Dossier
Kinda says it all, don't you think? 😉

Not necessarily.

That book is about what happened between seasons 1/2 and season 3.......
Some thoughts on an odd week:
I've pretty much held to the feeling that this is it for TP.....was startled when KMac dropped the hint...
Some of us were not happy with 12 and 13....frustration crept in
Part 14 "accidentally" aired a week early, sending spoilertown into overdrive (and reassuring some of us.....)
We're getting close to the end....there's going to be a strange absence when The Return ends....it will take some getting used to.
I get the sense that Parts 14-18 will be really vital and full...DL can do a lot with 5 hours...he's had 13 to set everything up.
Yes, part of me hopes we get five "Part 8's" in a row.....go for it, man!
We haven't seen the last 5 acts, and can still stay in the moment and go for the ride...
We owe Pieter big thanks for providing this forum-I've never seen anything like it!

I'm just along for the ride.
And Yes! Always a big thanks to Pieter for putting up with us. It can't be easy.
Not necessarily.
'tis but a scratch!

Like others have said, most of us would have been thrilled if we had even gotten a 2-3 hour movie. And we have 6 hours left!
We have to understand that David Lynch is 71. The Return was a HUGE project. It's quite possible he might not even be physically able to do a project of this scale again.
When I watched bits of a documentary about Lynch, it seems that he actually likes to spend most of his time painting.

Not looking for particular spoilers, but feedback about 14 has been good?
