We know Laura won't appear to be herself to Cooper. Is anyone else thinking Laura could now be Candie?
If so, Episode 12 could begin with a bang....
I think Candie is special--nay, supernatural-- but I'm holding out hope that Laura will have her own role yet to play, as herself, not merely her Red Room analogue or its doppelgänger. After her stellar performances as Maddy in TP and her heartrending portrayal of Laura in FWWM, it would do a great disservice to Sheryl Lee to reprise her character in the body of a younger actress while Kyle MacLachlan instead receives the role of a lifetime, a formidable acting opportunity to play both hero and villain, and, admittedly a generous gesture on Lynch's part, typecast as MacLachlan was after Twin Peaks (and in the wake of Dune and Blue Velvet)
Indeed, Laura contains multitudes, as Catherine Coulson seemingly reminded us after Part Eight's big reveal. I'm hoping she'll be honored yet as a far more nuanced, human and heroic character than a one-dimensional martyr/metaphysical unit of female virtue sent from an alternate plane of existence.
She may have not yet figured prominently in The Return, but I'm hoping she didn't die in vain, reduced to a hackneyed expression of the redemptive power of a tragic female demise, reprised in her abrupt appearance in The Red Room only to be lost to us once more.
Gordon's vision suggests as much!
We'll see!

Second this as well. I hope the rumored scene where Coop takes a Laura Palmer-like woman to her family's house - presumably to see Sarah, would be the happy ending Laura deserves.
However, I can't imagine how Sarah would've felt seeing her long dead daughter at her doorstep some 25 years after she was found dead, wrapped in plastic.
Sarah would probably come to terms with it, since she's also gifted in some way. Maybe all her life through the last 25 years is just treading water, wating for answers, at the very least.
What if there is no happy ending?
What if at the best things are contained from getting worse?
Yeah, Lynch isn't usually fond of the happiest endings
I just assumed Laura was referring to her doppleganger.

To clarify, I'm not interested in or expecting a "happy ending." Nor do I anticipate any sort of formal closure. On the contrary, I'm actually hoping that few of Twin Peaks' mysteries end up resolved in any rational or intelligible way-- that was the point, I surmise, of the spectacular twist ending of the original series.
My point was merely that the OP's suggestion that Candie might, in fact, play physical host to Laura's spirit would be a shame given the power of Sheryl Lee's original performance and the totem-like significance Lynch has imputed to her prom/homecoming photo...
No, I'm hopeful that Candie (and Mandy, and Sandy) are closer to the cast of uncanny/otherworldly Lynch characters:
- Ruth, The Cowboy and the resident of the dumpster behind Winkie's in Mulholland Drive
- Ben in Blue Velvet
- The prostitutes who sing/dance "The Locomotion" in Inland Empire
- Mrs. Tremond and her son in Fire Walk with Me.
We'll see!
I think that Candie (and Mandy, and Sandy) are more like the Dumb milk waiter from season 2.
One of the girls pours drinks, such as coffee. Candie now serves cherry pie. The third has yet to show her hand, I don't believe. Between the three of them, perhaps Cooper shall awaken?
Candie. Candie? Annie! I dunno who she is, but I think she is being influenced somehow.

I sure hope you are right!
I admit I'm guilty of speculation on the particulars of Dougie's awakening. I wonder whether Candie serving the pie might spark... Something?
As you said, "we'll see!"

Maybe kind of like the 3 wise men/ 3 bringers of gifts in lots of different myths...?

Yep. I can imagine him saying, "Kyle, you got your happy endings in Dune and Blue Velvet, so suck it up, lad!"

Huey, Dewey and Louie, or
Larry, Curly and Moe, or
Groucho, Harpo and Chico, or
Faith, Hope and Charity...
oh, wait...
