This guy blew me away... Hadn't seen him do much since he made a big breakthrough playing a great psycho in Scream. Always liked him and had wished he do more challenging roles. This was a great surprise among many in the new series.
I agree. When I first saw his face my first thought was "Oh no, it's Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo live action..." but thankfully he pulled through basically from the get go.
He certainly does remind me of Ray Wise when the both of them become emotional. Not completely similar, but reminiscent.
He was a great addition to the Lynch universe to my surprise
I was really surprised to see him but happily so. He's actually a much stronger actor than he's been given credit for. I will be curious to see if/how his role plays out.
And Bad Dale killed his wife - I'm sure his situation will come up a lot more in future episodes
Another great casting! i feel like every single one of the new cast fits so well!
I am so glad someone made a thread for this; my first thought upon seeing him was wow... the last time I saw this guy was in "She's All That" and he was all like
I was definitely surprised by his performance. In fact it had been such a while since I'd seen him that I was for a while scratching my head over who he was. His role is so different from the wacky stereotype he'd had during the '90s and early 2000s.
He's always been so expressive though... that face! It lends itself to Twin Peaks, the weird facial expressions we love from characters like Bobby, Leland, etc.
SLC Punk...
Agreed, he is doing an amazing job and I get the sense that his role is pivotal in the new series. Can't believe he was Shaggy! His character has some parallels with Leland, and I love the way Lynch goes right for the white picket fence with how... awful and mean that family is! Being school principal and fishing buddy of police, townspeople and all.
One thing I noticed about the credits for the new series is that the two people responsible for casting were given top billing, over other roles traditionally put upfront, like director or writer or stars. Clearly there's a fair weight they carried with the casting, and so far I think very believable choices have been made.
i thought it was hilarious in episode 9 when he kept saying that they "just wanted to go scuuuuuubbbba diving." not-so-subtle shaggy reference? 😀
