Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
I know, I know, "Mark Frost's vision of TP" and all, but one would hope that, if all loose ends were tied up and all important questions answered, there would be no need for a follow up book.
This gives me hope that the mystery is not over.
I ordered mine.
I think it's going to be what the original book was supposed to be. The Secret History was originally advertised as filling in the gap between seasons 2 and 3. But actually, it didn't do that, it gave the history leading up to 1989. Somewhere along the creation of The Return, Mark Frost realised that the original idea would contain too many spoilers for the TV series.
So, The Final Dossier will likely fill in us in on what happened between season 2 and 3. That means it doesn't actually need to have a direct relationship with the final episode of the season. It won't be taking things beyond Part 18. Rather, it will fill us in on how the characters arrived at the point we found them at in Part 1.
So, it won't be a case of "What happens next?" More a case of "What happened in those 25 years?" So, perhaps more elaboration on what happened to Audrey, how Dougie came into being, and what Mr C got up to in the first few years after escaping the Black Lodge. Also, it might be interesting to find out just how Good Dale passed the time during 25 years in the Black Lodge.

I always thought that time didn't "pass" in the Lodges? So for Good Coop maybe it's just been like 10 minutes?
Maybe I'm wrong...

He aged so SOMETHING passed.
In this fiction, Tammy analyzed and checked all the files found in Major Briggs metal case.
And she gave a report to Gordon Cole.
But many files were on a higher clearance level than she was allowed.
So, now she is member of Blue Rose team and get probably this higher clearance level.
Next book contains this missing top top secret files about Cooper and Major Briggs.
And about other people.
And maybe the last missing page of Laura Palmer diary.
I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully we'll get the whole cast for the audio book too

The evolved arm asked Cooper if he "remembered" his doppelganger. Memory lends a sense that some events now seem distant. I doubt that it felt like 25 years, but I think there is some concept of time passing in the lodge.

It sounds like it may be more interesting than SHOTP. I ordered mine and hope that people will stick around here to discuss it.
Would all of you buy the first book again having watch season 3? I just wonder if it still fits in the story line.
Yes I would still buy the first book. I think there are things in there that were probably missed because the context for figuring them out was in season 3. I plan on re-reading the first book after the finale to see what I pick up on.
Do you guys know if one should read TSHOTP before The Final Dossier or is it a totally separate thing?

I can't say for sure as I don't know what the final dossier is going to cover.
However, I'd certainly read TSH as it covers a lot.

I think this is an unfortunate consequence of human biology and since actors and actresses are human, there's no way around their aging, aside from using CGI or (gulp) recasting Agent Cooper, Mike, the Fireman, Laura Palmer, etc.
Edit: however, they did show Cooper as having aged in the season 2 finale or FWWM (can't remember at the moment), but I think that was more symbolic (for effect) since Laura hadn't aged.
I think aged Cooper was in season 1 episode 2 or 3 (depending whether you count the pilot as an episode). I don't remember there being any explanation for his aging, so it's a happy accident how it matches up with the Return, although, as you said, Laura hadn't aged.
