Spoiler alert: this is about pages 20 & 67-71 of The Final Dossier, both 'written by' Tamara Preston. To be honest, I haven't finished the book yet, but the discrepancy is bothering me and I was hoping to hear some thoughts from other people who have read the book already:
Page 20:
We know that the next morning, Doc Hayward accompanied Sheriff Truman to examine Agent Cooper in his room at the Great Northern Hotel, after he returned from a mysterious night spent -exact whereabout unknown- in the Ghostwood National Forest. While they were in the room -again according to Doc Hayward's subsequent report- Agent Cooper went to the bathroom to brush his teeth, slipped on the bathroom floor, and slammed his head into the mirror over the sink, knocking himself unconscious. Once again, Doc Hayward accompanied his patient to the hospital -this time Sheriff Truman drove- and admitted him with the same diagnosis: a grade 2 concussion. [...] Agent Cooper, according to available records, spent that day and night in the hospital before he checked himself out -without receiving medial clearance- the following morning.
Note: the "once again" and "same diagnosis" is about another character mentioned just a paragraph earlier.
Then on pages 67/71:
The next morning, near dawn, Sheriff Truman and one of his deputies found Cooper and Annie in a nearby clearing. Deputies rushed Annie to the hospital. They took Cooper back to his room at the Great northern, where Doc Hayward checked him out and pronounced him healthy but in need of rest, and Cooper spent the remainder of that day recovering at the hotel.
Wait. What?
Huh.....good catch. I'm curious to hear what everyone else has to say as well since I don't know what to make of it. Did he or did he not go to the hospital.....
BTW, did it say who the first patient was that Doc Hayward accompanied and diagnosed? Just curious.
I didn't get my Final Dossier yet. I'm filled with anticipation!!
I haven't read it yet but after reading these excerpts I can't avoid feeling perplexed. It simply doesn't match with Season's 2 finale.

Pieter won't be able to clarify without giving away another spoiler. Audrey would be my guess.
The way I read it the events in the 2nd excerpt precede the events of the first episode. Thai is:
Morning 1: Cooper is found in the grove and brought to the hotel (after briefly going to hospital with Annie). Doc Hayward examines him and pronounces him ok. Cooper spends the rest of the day at the hotel.
Morning 2: Doc and Harry check up on Cooper, Cooper smashes his head into the mirror and is then brought to the hospital where he stays until morning 3 when he checks himself out.

The problem here is Annie. She only gets to the hospital in the second excerpt that Pieter posted (morning 2). It doesn't make sense!

Good point. Guess I'll just have to wait and read it myself.
Wait a minute!
Two characters with the same diagnosis? Grade 2 concussion?
Wow!
If those two characters are in fact Cooper and Audrey, what does that tell us about Season 3?

Audrey HAD to have had more than a concussion. She got blown up.
Also, Cooper did not knock himself unconscious, from what we saw at the end of season 2.
Unreliable narrator, or time-quakes?
My money is on the latter.
But in Missing Pieces there is a scene where Cooper/Mr C is on the floor after banging his head on the mirror and Hayward and Truman walk into the bathroom so Mark Frost is using that scene that was not included in the original series 2.

Wait. What?
Hi Pieter,
Yes, that jumped out to me, too.
The only explanation I can think of is that the first telling of the sequence of events was from a report by Doc Haywood. As you know from reading the book, Haywood was dealing with another - to him much more important - crisis at the time. He had finally had it out with Ben Horne about Ben being Donna's father - with a grade 2 concussion for Horne being the outcome of that little contretemps. =:-O
😉

P.S. To all: I considered putting a spoiler space between "I can think of is that" and "the first telling" but decided against it. There is no way to discuss The Final Dossier without spoiling it, so I will suggest - for the folks that care about such things - don't read the posts here until you read the book. Otherwise, at least in my posts, there will be spoilers galore, spoilers to spare.
Besides, The Final Dossier is quite an easy read, it only took me about three hours to get through the whole thing. 😉

Hi Brandy,
Ben Horne. Apparently Horne and Haywood finally had it out regarding Horne's genetic contribution to the Haywood family! =:-O
😉

Hi Octavio,
The second character wasn't Audrey. Don't read my other two posts (unfortunately they will appear before this one) if you don't want to know who it is! 😉
