It's been in front of us this entire time..
Twin Peaks. the title of the show. Since April 8th, 1990 it has been in front of us.
I'm only now realizing it.
Twin Peaks.
I always thought that the title referred to the mountains, White Tail Mountain and Blue Pine Mountain (which is where the town got it's name from).
It's just now hit me that the title Twin Peaks is all about doubles (twins). Laura/Maddie , Cooper/Dopple Cooper , Mr.C/Dougie Jones , Lois Duffy/Lois Duffy (1st Blue Rose case) , Diane/Tulpa Diane , The Giant/Milk Waiter , Man From Another Place/The Arm Evolved , the list goes on and on.. And then it REALLY hit me...
In the finale of Season 3... We all agree it's either a different time-line or an alternate reality.. but, I posit this; What we are seeing is the doppleganger (or perhaps tulpa) of Twin Peaks itself! Why would a double be limited to a human being? Why wouldn't the entire town be a double (or planet for that matter - or universe)?
There is more to this that I am formulating, but that's the basics of it.
Deer Meadow was basically the bad doppel of Twin Peaks.
But yeah, I guess that would make sense. I suppose mostly all (but maybe not ALL) of the scenes of Twin Peaks in this last season could have been some form of tulpa/doppel/alternate TP. It would answer why everything was so detached and jumbled and seems to go nowhere and why James is now Jimmy.
I mean, obviously it is a boob joke 😛
But, in seriousness, I have also started thinking about this in terms of duality of explanations. The old classic is that Leland or BOB killed Laura. I feel like there are a bunch more in The Return.
One that has stuck in my craw is about Mr. C's car accident: it was an accident that he went off the road and ended up in prison, or his intention was to end up in prison so that he could blackmail Warden Murphy, etc.
These are inclusive disjunctions. In a sense the answer is both. And I feel like there are a lot of cases with a structure like this. Moreover, the dual explanations are often opposed to one another, such that I am put in mind of those interesting words that mean both a thing and its opposite, such as aufheben in German, or sanction in English, etc.
I have been pondering the duality at great length myself as of late. And I keep going back to the easiest and most obvious from the very first season, Bobby & Mike, BOB & MIKE. It's so simplistic yet in my head it is they key to a lot of things.
Then I was thinking.....were Mr. C and Dale ever in the same room at the same time? When Mr. C was dead and being "processed" by the Woodsmen, was there anything left of him by the time Cooper got there? Or Dougie...... Why wouldn't Mr. C just go kill Dougie himself...... And the 3 of them didn't seem able to exist in the same realm of "reality" thus why Dougie had to go when Cooper came out.
Then there was the GREAT mystery of Richard and Linda throughout the season. But then Richard and Linda were 2 completely other random people.......
I need a beer. ?
Nice observation about them never being in the same place at the same time, really
