Maybe Lynch wanted to secretly show that the scenes we are seeing are plucked from different timelines that were created after the very first time Cooper changed things
I was looking up dear old Washington's license plates, and I darn well know when someone is sporting an old plate.
It's not a minor detail; it's like having natural curls vs having a perm, or wearing Levis jeans vs Jordache, or Nike vs BK Knights, Sophia Lillis vs Molly Ringwald. I just mean, old license plates kinda makes it a period piece. Them's the past.
Now as to what it means, I withhold comment. But the abundance of inconsistent dating may all just reinforce that Cooper went back and mucked things up.
Many cell phones seen in the Return are looking old (10 years old), some others not.
There were topics last year on the Blackberry used by Lorraine : a 6230 model (released in 2003). Is it past ?
But when Mr C. is in the old rental car with and old licence plate, he is using a recent smartphone (when he is searching) for the tracking devices. Is it past or is it now ?
The licence plate of the FBI car at the Zone, it is not past :
I'll toss this out there too, back on page 25 of this thread we determined that the gas price in the show was the exact gas price from a May 2016 google street image photo.
Part of me wants to say that all of these "time" elements (gas prices, license plates from specific years, car models, etc) are meaningless, only because it would be a logistical nightmare for the props department to keep it all consistent.
The another part of me wants to say that it HAS to be all done on purpose because Lynch is Lynch and that like.. what he does.
Well what do you think of my idea that I said a couple of posts back?^^
That we are seeing things happen time and time again......
I think there could be value in that; that he is showing things plucked our of order. I posted somewhere that one of my theories was that everything in the Bang Bang Bar took place all in the same night (everyone in the background were wearing the same clothes; James was wearing the same thing every time he was shown in there; Chromatics are in two episodes, in both they are wearing the same thing, etc). Yet, we know that this is split up over various episodes.
Now, take what you have proposed and it very well could make sense, that different scenes are taking place in different time periods.
Please someone start some new threads. I can't even remember or find what I wanted to ask or discuss.
Holy crap, just saw this on facebook!
The blanket! And maybe the lounge?
One and the same ?

Well this is an observation who deserves really it's own topic.
There is so much to say about it (original series, FWWM and The Return), it'll be a pity to be drowned here amongst so many other previous observations.

I found the same blanket in the Roseanne (one from the late 80's). Although the squares may be a little bigger..
Bevause of the blanket being both in Tremonds house and also Sarahs, could the man on the phone to Mr C (who he thought was Jefferies) be the grandson?
And
Could Mrs Tremond be Judy?
Was she in Sarahs kitchen?
I would if I could, Brandy, but I have been lost for months. I still check in here and try to read, but when the series ended I lost my grip. Never could accept the fact that there probably are no real answers, and that we just search, imagine and invent things. Some people are ok with that, but i don't want to write the story myself. Still, I enjoy reading here, and there are some very good ideas and perceptive analyses and new discoveries all the time. I suppose it can go on forever, with the endlessly open conclusions.

I can relate to this, although when I tend to disappear its because I've literally thought myself into a whole and feel I've got nothing new to contribute (that and I've got a 13 week old baby and sleepless night-brain and Twin Peaks don't tend to work together very well!) I'd rather have something to bring to the table than nothing at all.
What does give me a bit of faith that there is definite meaning at the heart of The Return (if not some of the more minor moments) is a Mark Frost quote that I can't seem to find now where he stated that the one thing he did really work for was to make sure the events of The Return had some sort of logical motivation or underpinning. Obviously a logic we're not privy to ?

I can relate to your response about relating.................... ? ?
Bloody hell. I'm an idiot. I just realized something.....
In episode 3 Cooper has just arrived in Las Vegas after goibg through the electrical socket.
HE HAS THE 315 ROOM KEY!
Episode 17 must happen before episode 3.
Proof of the loop theory.
How did I not realize this????
Edited to add :
Woops, hubby says he's had the jey since season 2.
Damn , I thought I had something!

Yep.
But the strange thing is that his shoes did not pass through the socket.
But the room key did.
And his FBI pin did not.
