Around the dinner table, the conversation was lively. Thank you but for now, the forum has been archived.
Hello, I'm new here so please be gentle 😀 A few people thought like me that Gordon's French companion was a 'key' a bit like Lil. So I wrote a little something for 25YL about that here. I know it's quite a contentious issue, and in many ways I'm inclined to say she was nothing more than a comedy moment just to watch Albert fume myself, but what did you think?
Hi Laura! Don't worry, everyone is nice here. Except for the Chinese spam bots, but I think that extreme negative force has been effectively dispelled (with thanks to Brandy and Pieter)
Not sure I am convinced about the significance of the French woman, but you certainly provide some interesting things to think about! I guess my biggest hang-up would pertain to how Cole would know things, if he is the source of the "message" etc. And why not just tell Albert? Though that would also pertain to Lil, I guess. So, maybe there is another way to think about both of those scenes that would be less dependent on Cole being the source of the message (?)... I don't know.
In the secret history book Cole mentions having cuban cigars and a fine red Bordeaux. ....
Been thinking about this a lot. No conclusions. But I like the write up and a lot of details were presented that I had either forgotten or never noticed to begin with. Thank you for resurrecting this little component.
I like the idea that Cole is trying to communicate something to Albert through the actions of the French woman without speaking. But why does Albert look so annoyed? Because he doesn't "get" that something important is being told to him? Because he thinks Cole should just come out and say it? Because it's Albert and that is his resting B-face?
However, it could just be homage to Lil or to general absurdity. Or it could have been a self-aggrandizing Lynch moment?
Welcome, Lula! My guess is she's just some absurd comic relief. But it's possible she could have been a way for Jeffries to pass information to Cole, since there are many examples of people not wanting to say things over the phone or even speak them aloud.

Oh, I am liking this idea that she is passing on info from Jeffries!
