From the moment the 1945 title card appears in Part 8 to the next title card of 1956, the running time is 24 minutes, 19 seconds.
From the moment Cooper pulls up to Carrie Page's house in Part 18 through the credits, the running time is 24 minutes, 19 seconds.
Both sections have exactly the same running time!
Now, I don't think this was intentional and I haven't tried to sync up the imagery, but it is peculiar and just another example of how wonderfully weird and mysterious this new iteration of Twin Peaks is.
WOW!
I must ask, what made you compare and time the 2?
I've watched Parts 8 and 18 the most of any episodes, my two faves. I think both episodes are the most mysterious and hold the most clues. Seeing how Lynch used the song 'My Prayer' again in part 18, it got me thinking if there were other connections. Of course, there's the Golden Orb of Laura in part 8 and we finally get to see present day Laura in part 18. So what if the 'birth' of Laura in Part 8 somehow matched the 'rebirth' of Laura in Part 18? I watched both again and started thinking of that sync that was done with Parts 17 and 18. So what if parts of 8 and 18 synced up? I watched again, did a little math and voila, the stars turn and a new mystery presents itself.
I posted this on the Reddit forum and KarlosHungus36 watched both sections synced up. Here's his reply:
I watched the whole thing synced up, and holy fucking hell it is incredible... First, I got lucky (using showtimeanytime app in two tabs) and started the sync at the perfect time - when they are counting down in New Mexico they get to #6 at the exact moment when the #6 pole is shown in Odessa (to do this I started the sync when Cooper's car crossed what looks like a series of lines on the street). Ok...then for the next 10 minutes or so it's all about the music. The "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima" theme fits in beautifully with the tense Carrie and Cooper scene as they hit the road.
Next, the white light at the center of the vortex that appears after the convenience store scene syncs up with the car light appearing behind their car as they travel. Carrie looks back when the Experiment sends forward the stream of vomit.
Next, there's a shot of the highway ahead of them that looks similar to the red wormhole perspective shot in the part 8 scene, so it looks as if Carrie and Cooper are traveling through it. When Carrie starts reminiscing about Odessa, the castle of the white lodge appears, as if she's doing a voice-over in the scene. It matches beautifully.
The 30s theme begins just as they leave the gas station and it fits in well with the part 18 scene. Just as they cross the bridge the alarm sounds and it stops as they step out of the car. The Fireman leaves the main room as Carrie and Coop are approaching the front steps of the Palmer house, and they walk up the steps after he walks up the steps of the theater room. Badalamenti's theme that plays during the levitation scene is a little heavy for the scene at the front door with Alice, but it's not too bad. But, probably the best part is when the golden dust is emanating around the Fireman's head, Laura and Senorita Dido are looking up in unison and the moment Laura screams and the lights go out the golden orb pops out. The part 8 music over the credits is really nice too. Someone needs to make a video of this.
I don't know whether that's an intentional sync, but even if it's just coincidence that description sounds incredible!
