I still hold out hope that'll be answered in the show but I doubt it will. Possibly what we saw happen with Gordon only without Albert there to pull him back so he's probably had his head popped by a woodsman.

Chester Desmond.. Wtf happened to me?? I swear it keeps me up at night

I've said this on another thread and no one has countered it yet. I am reasonably confident that when Cooper and Cole are watching the security camera monitor to confirm that Jeffries was there at the FBI Headquarters. On the monitor to the right a figure walks across what appears to be the car park. To me the figure appears to be dressed the same and walking in a similar way to Chet Desmond.

Now I have to watch that again to make sure I'm seeing what I want to see...:-)

It still doesn't answer your question as to what happened to him...Sorry. 😉
