IN 1945, after the explosion of the "gadget" at Trinity site in New Mexico, the sand glowed green for a few seconds. Left behind was a new substance dubbed trinitite. The atomic blast melted the sand into a green mineral. It's just irradiated glass and quartz, basically. You could make a ring out of it if you wanted to. In fact people used to collect it and do just that.
